So I have come to the realization that I have the worst lawn on my street. The lawn gets mowed but I have weeds and dandelions growing in the yard and my yard is not green.

I spoke with the people who mow my lawn and they said they could put me on a lawn care plan where they do a series of 7 treatments throughout the course of the year that would cost around $240 or $40 per treatment.

The lady said, they would do 2 Weed Killer treatments and then 1 fertilizer treatment over the course of a month.

I know absolutely nothing about yard work and I really don't care to learn that much about it, but I was wondering if this was a decent rate?

not sure about the rate.

But you can buy the fertilizer and preventer yourself probably for cheaper.

First thing you need to find out is, which type of grass you have.

Bermuda or st.augustine.

Every year on the first week of february you need to put down halts crabgrass preventer. Then while the grass is dormant, buy a bottle of round up and hit all the spots that have large weeds like dallis grass and crab grass.

they will die off. Then in the fall put down the halts broadleef weed preventer.

During the year, fertilize your lawn in april, june and september.

If you have bermuda you can put down scotts plus2 with weed killer now.
Then in june in the summer you can apply either scotts turf builder, or southern turf builder. Then in september you can put down plus 2 again, the southern turf builder again or scotts winterizer.

If you have augustine lawn, I would just put down scotts bonus S in all three months.

The important thing is the crabgrass and broadleef preventers at the beginning of the year. And if you have the time pull out the weeds you see by hand, they crowd the soil and steal the nurtrients your lawn needs to grow!

then of course, water. The most important part. Dont water at night, that promotes weed growth.

Good luck man, its a battle.

I have a huge oak tree in the middle of my front yard that keeps me from having a nice yard so all I do is keep it mowed.

Install astroturf and you will never have to worry about your yard being over grown or looking dead.:D

I think after I win the lottery I might actually consider doing that.:laugh2:

Just spray Roundup on your entire lawn and it will kill all the weeds. :D

Hard to say without knowing the size of your yard, but if you are dead-set against doing yard work you might as well go with them or call around for a few more quotes. Some of my neighbors have gone with those treatment plans and their yards look fantastic. BUT, it will probably take about a year for it to really get that "lush" look that some of your neighbors have (factoring in aerating/seeding in November and your grass "kaputing" during the winter).

I use Weed and Feed and it does a great job for my lawn.

Unless you want to do it yourself - get several estimates. It's not that bad doing everything yourself it just takes time. Just don't expect your lawn to look like a golf course overnight.

Try the treatment if you can afford it. It is definitely worth it. I have been using a company for treatment for the past couple of years and my lawn looks great. No weeds, grass is always green etc. I used to do it myself but it started costing more money to keep maintenance and I don't like a lot of yard work anyway. Let someone else do it if you can afford.

I have Scotts do my lawn care and you definitely can tell the difference on my street when it comes to who has lawn care and who doesn't.

I have 3/4 of an acre and I did it once myself and while I did save a little bit of money it didn't out way the time and effort I had to put into it.

Hmmm...not a bad idea at all.

Notes to self...

Win Lottery,
Buy Big Boat,
Live on Big Boat,
Put astroturf on boat.

No cutting grass or weed eating again.

:laugh2:

I have already signed up and it is not like I will have to pay a lump sum fee, I will just get charged per treatment.

I just want to see results.

I live next to the Model Home of our neighborhood and their grass was green green all through this winter. I called them last week and ask for the company who services their lawn but the guy said he only does Model Homes.

But I bet they are paying a ton of money to have their lawn like that.

I just want mine to be some what green and I don't want the neighbors to get annoyed.

You will definitely see results maybe immediately but it will happen soon especially if it rains where you are at.
