Leinart, Boldin headline Cardinals' camp

Quarterback Matt Leinart and receiver Anquan Boldin drew the biggest media crowds following the Cardinals' one-hour practice in shorts at team headquarters in Tempe today. Leinart plans to tighten his circle of friends after embarrassing photos of him surfaced online recently. Boldin, meanwhile, put to rest any talk that he was demanding a trade. I'll have much more on these situations, but wanted to post something quickly in the meantime.

Leinart: 'The Internet is a bad thing'

Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart answered a series of football-related questions before the focus shifted to those party photos that made their way online and led coach Ken Whisenhunt to express disappointment.

"Obviously, you learn life lessons in things," Leinart said. "My mind-set has been on football, clearly, going into this minicamp or going into this summer. When you play football, you are a name out there or a person in the spotlight; it is tough, you have a target on your chest. But you learn a lesson and you move on."

I then asked Leinart if he had a new appreciation for the power of the Internet. Leinart broke into a smile and said, "The Internet is a bad thing."

On a more serious note, Leinart said he learned a lesson about showing more discretion in his personal life.

"Yeah, it's hard to trust anybody, especially when you are in a position like I am, a position like all these guys are in when you are a professional athlete," Leinart said. "You learn that, but your circle kind of gets closer, tighter around you, and that is not necessarily a bad thing."

Boldin shoots down trade talk

Anquan Boldin doesn't want a trade, after all. The Cardinals' receiver is attending the team's post-draft camp and shooting down trade talk that surfaced after teammate Larry Fitzgerald signed a four-year, $40 million contract this offseason.

"I've always wanted to be in Arizona," Boldin said after practice today. "This is the only place I have known professionally. I don't want to uproot my family and leave. I am happy here. I have a great rapport with everybody around here, coaches included. I am happy here."

The Arizona Republic has quoted Cardinals officials as saying Boldin's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, had asked whether the team would be amenable to a trade. Asked if his agent had requested a trade, Boldin said, "No."

"I went to sleep one night and woke up the next morning and I was disgruntled, wanted out of Arizona and all this stuff," Boldin said. "I hadn't even talked to nobody. It's funny to see the reports going around, especially around draft time. It is what it is. I can't do anything about it. None of it was me."

The bottom line is that Boldin said he plans to go about his work the way he always has, letting his agent handle the contract situation. The team plans to re-work Boldin's contract when the opportunity is right, coach Ken Whisenhunt said today. Boldin appeared unfazed.

"I do what I do, and that is play football," he said. "That is not a distraction to me at all."

Boldin is among several players resting injuries during camp. He has a sore hamstring, Whisenhunt said.

Boldin. Boldin. Boldin. When you asked Rosenhaus if he had asked the Cardinals about possibly trading you, are you absolutely sure he said, 'No' or 'No comment'. ;)
