Scott Linehan
January 14th, 2019 at 9:20am CST by Zach Links

Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan will return for the 2019 season, according to head coach Jason Garrett (Twitter link via Jon Machota of the Dallas News). Furthermore, Garrett said he doesn’t expect any significant changes to the coaching staff.

The Cowboys gave serious though to firing Linehan after the 2017 season and mulled a change during the team’s bye week in October. Ultimately, they stuck with him, and the Cowboys’ playoff run in January may have saved his job. The Cowboys won their divisional round game against the Seahawks before being forced out on Saturday by the Rams.

When Linehan refused to meet with reporters after the loss to L.A., many assumed he was done with the Cowboys. However, that’s not the case. Garrett is opting for consistency over change, perhaps with a belief that the return of Travis Frederick will restore order to the offense.

The Cowboys averaged 343.8 yards per game in 2018, good for just 22nd in the NFL. They also finished tenth in rushing yards, which probably fell below expectations given the presence of Ezekiel Elliott and the team’s reputation for having one of the NFL’s best offensive lines.

This better not be true. How many excuses does this guy have for lack of playoff success?

The return of Fredbeard will not make all things right.

Actually, some are saying tap the brakes until you hear from Jerry or Stephen. Say Garrett had no choice but to say what he said on the radio coz there's been no staff meeting as of yet ( Jerry, Stephen, McCay)

Good news could be Linehan return means no extension for Garrett. Just let BOTH play out 2019 lame-duck year.

If Linehan stays, that just shows how much EVERYONE on this team doesn't want to be successful. The players and some of the coaching staff should know and see that Linehan is the downfall of this team and they NEED to do something NOW if they ever want to go to the Super Bowl. I don't care if they don't have any "power" against the Great and Powerful Jerry Jones. They can at least bring it into his attention that LINEHAN SUCKS. HE SUCKS. Hell even Garrett is fine, but please LET LINEHAN GO.

Content.

Just like last two playoff runs. Everything is fine. No changes needed.

One step forward, two steps back. Thanks a lot the Jones family.

Exactly, do they really expect the Head Coach of the most valuable sports franchise in the US to walk in front of cameras and say "We fought hard this year and finished strong after a bad start. We had some strong coaching performances, especially on defense. We haven't started our off season evaluations on anything and won't until after the Super Bowl. EXCEPT FOR THAT BAG OF CRAP LINEHAN JEEZ I'VE ALREADY DELETED THAT LOSER OUT OF MY CELL PHONE".

Elizabeth!
This is the Big one!
I'm comin to join you, honey!

Really, this just micturates me right off.
No imagination, no in-game changes, poor use of current assets, way too predictable........he needs to go back to college (D II) and take Kellen with him.

Yeah, let's blame our failures on our injured players.

We'll see.

I don't think the Cowboys are stupid enough to bring back Dak and Linehan and expect different results.

1 or the other has to go because the offense is not being ran like an NFL offense should be ran.

Not worried. If Jerry wants his precious "Dak" to succeed, he'll be smart enough to let Linehan go. If he was so happy with what Linehan did over the season, he would have extended him like he did Garrett. I wouldn't listen to anything JG says because all he knows is clapping. He isn't the owner of the franchise and doesn't control the future of it's players and coaches.
