Insane. I read that when house cat's purr when they get close to you, it is just an affect of their heart rate speeding up since they are close enough to attack you. I imagine it's the same with lions.

What about when they are close and not purring but begin to purr when being petted?

Sounds a little odd. They'd be purring any time they are playing around or running.

Treadwell was a fool. It's so sad what happened to him. What is so unbelievable is that he took his GF w/ him on his last fatal trip, and she also was killed and eaten.

For years our **&G folks told him over and over what he was doing was going to get him killed. He wouldn't listen. He truly felt he had a connection w/ the bears and they had grown used to having him around. Maybe that was true and it even appeared that way for years, but he always yearly had run in's with rogue bears he didn't know, but consistently pushed it even with them.

Chance finally caught up to Tim on that fateful day, unfortunately.
