Watching the birds move stuff around with their beaks reminds me how bad life would suck without arms.

I can only imagine a hypothetical sentient bird saying the same of humans and wings.

How big is that bird?

I mean, I know they get big but that thing looks to be the size of a medium-sized dog.

Yeah.

Watching these idiots walk around all day reminds me how bad life would suck without wings.

That thing looks on edge right now.

Just snapping its head around like it's expecting to go to battle.

Also, why does it look like it is panting?

Is the bird hyperventilating to try and work up a little body heat for the eggs?

Pep was way ahead of you guys... Down the page at "Bald eagles in Iowa about to hatch". ;)

But yeah, it's awesome. Have had it on my second monitor pretty much all the time for the last couple of days. That rabbit has been in the nest for a while now... Apparently they time it so it's deteriorating when the babies come out.

One of my favorite things besides feeding the eaglets is when you hear a "whomp" and dad (or mom) suddenly appears. So cool.

This latest camera operator is a little pan-happy. Wish he'd calm it down sometimes.

I saw this tonight on CNN or some other news show. Very cool, and thanks for sharing.

For someone whose first research project was on behavioral biology, this is actually fascinating stuff.

It's amazing, I can't find anything at all to watch on all of those TV channels, .. but I could watch this for hours.

They can get up to around 15lbs and have wing spans over 7 feet. Females are generally slightly larger than the males. Body length wise, they can get a bit over three feet.

They can get rather large, but I've seen Owls that get way larger. We were fishing one time out in a Lake Benbrook tributary. We had bobbers on and we were with my brother-in-law and his younger brother. His brother was fishing and his bobber was about 15-20 feet out in the water and an owl came down out of a tree and grabs his bobber and flew away with it completely ripping the rod and reel out of his brothers hands. His brother was 13 and the owl was substantially larger than he was. It was quite a scary situation as we didn't see the owl until we heard it swoop down and grab the bobber. It scared the hell out of his brother and I don't plame him. That bird was enormous and was practically on top of him before we saw it.

There is no question that they are birds of prey. They look angry all the time. :laugh2:

When they picked the Bald Eagle to be the National Bird Benjamin Franklin didn't like the idea of the Bald Eagle representing America. He said it was a bird of bad character. (bullying other animals out of their food instead of hunting for itself)

I'm pretty sure him picking the turkey was in mockery of the bad choice he thought the bald eagle was.
