Whoever the next coach is-it’s not much of their fault if the team is awful for the next few seasons. These dramatic slow developing stories are how you milk headlines. Jerry and Stephen could easily make a decision on the next head coach after 72 to 96 hours filled with interviews and negotiations.

This is not a space shuttle launch. It’s barely above burgers and fries at your favorite eatery. Signing any extension for a player or coach takes less than 1 hour if both parties are close to agreement. It takes less than 1 hour to decide if the gap can ever be closed. Agents and main negotiators can figure out terms and length and all the other miscellaneous clauses and add ons in less than 1 day.

One reason this is happening is because Jerry and his drip of a son do not want to plan ahead or put more work in for security and due diligence. They move when they feel they must. The only reason they actually hire a head coach earlier than the start of regular season is optics and player buy in.

The long drawn out crap that has been going on has entirely to do with making a meal out of this lame head coaching replacement as though it’s big news. The team looked absolutely terrible last season and came extremely close to a 4-5 win team. The starting QB looks like he’s in his 80’s when he runs even a little-and this was before the season ending leg injury. The team will need to potentially replace 5+ starting players. The defense will likely get yet another coordinator. You think this season looked bad-wait till next season. And I believe Jerry and the serious head coaching candidates already know this-which is why they better milk this crap before it hits the fan next regular season.

It has entirely everything to do with the Jones clan being 100% unprepared for McCarthy leaving.

Possible scenarios:
Jerry and Stephen simply do not care about the team anymore and have abandoned their jobs
Jerry and Stephen dont know what to do (incompetence)
Jerry and Stephen cant find a HC they want to hire

They are destroying the credibility of the franchise and any credibility they had with the fans and media at this point. I have no idea why they are dragging this out at this point.

Getting a running back like Saquan plus 5 high end OL starters and a QB that can double as a RB is so easy to accumulate. It’s a wonder that every team doesn’t do it.
They also have 2 legit WR's, a TE, 2 legit DT's , CB's..they still have a hole up the middle on the defense after the DL to me but hey thats a solid team

Yes, I understand that, but I think

Yes, I understand that, but I think you missed my point . Decide how you want to build your team and what you want to build it around and then go for it. I don’t think this franchise knows what they want to do.

You don’t even need a quarterback.

That and they now want to draw the search out longer for maximum coverage. They waited till the 11th hour with McCarthy for the same reason. And yeah they were surprised he would not continue here.

he wants it near the SB, more attention

You have to occasionally run play action stuff off the run game. Lamar and Hurts benefit from the run game in this way. Neither one qualify as the high end pocket passer type, but it does not matter as long as they are a major threat to pull the hand off and run. It sets up tons of one on one matchups in the passing game. And they have dynamic receiving options that will destroy that coverage.

You gotta get a sense of humor,

I gave a like but also wanted to remind readers the current long drama is not an atypical occurrence. Younger and Old Jerry Jones' hiring dramas have averaged 19 days:

It is also relevant remembering those three occasions when Jones' drama were brief:

3 days - Barry Switzer was another former Arkansas Razorback teammate he had on speed dial after the Jimmy Johnson nonsense

3 days - Dave Campo was picked as the ultimate puppet coach to offset criticism (ha) after he fired Chan Gailey.

3 days - Mike McCarthy was likely already picked since Jones was fully aware Jason Garrett's contract would expire. This final instance is quite damning for Jones because the circumstances surrounding the transition are practically the same now as it was then.

So, why the wait? Why the long drama? Maybe because it is what Jones has typically done.
