I am looking to buy a home theater system prior to the start of the season. I don't know a whole lot about this kind of thing, and there are so many options out there. So, i was looking to get ideas on this forum.

I am not looking to spend more than around 250 bucks or so. I don't really care about blue ray compatibility because i am mainly just looking for something with good sound to watch ballgames and such.

Any ideas? The best thing i have seen is a sony bravia system for about 250 bucks.

Is it better to buy the pieces separate or buy it in a home theater bundle?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Never been a fan of the ones with DVD/Blu-ray players. Get the system and DVD player separate. Sony is a good choice also.

Buying the pieces separate would be the best option but it cost more.

Edit: Not a lot of options these days for that option it seems.

You might consider just getting the sound bar if you are only interested in using it for the games.

Check out AVS Forum.

Here is a link to the Audio section of their forums. http://www.avsforum.com/f/88/audio

Sounds like you want either a sound bar or home theater in a box. The AVS site can get ridiculous in their level of detail, but if you have time to do some surfing, you will find some good info.

+1 on the sound bar. $250 won't get you anything but junk if you buy separates, but it will get you a halfway decent sound bar. I think Polk, Yamaha, and Boston Acoustics have decent offerings in that price range. Boston might be a bit more though...

For $250 get a complete system in a box.

I recently got a Yamaha system at CompUsa for $279. It seems for these lower $$ sets they have the speakers matched so it works out well. The receiver has the HDMI in and out - not all have that. 600 watts. 5.1 surround. I have it hooked up to the TV in my shop and run a computer thru the reciever to the TV. Sounds good for tunes and for games etc.
