He pulled himself from Redsox options and now it looks like he has done the same for the Cubs. He citing that his family would weight heavily in the decision. It was hinted at before that he removed himself from the Redsox due to how far Boston is from Texas.

It seems he has no intention on moving from his home in Texas. Considering he was in up for both Redsox and Cubs and now neither. It appears he will return to Texas.

I'm happy with that. :)

==================================================

MILWAUKEE -- When Mike Maddux interviewed for the Cubs' managerial opening last week, he stressed how his family would play a large role in his decision.

Apparently, Maddux is no longer a viable option, and Dale Sveum may be the front-runner. Theo Epstein, president of baseball operations, and general manager Jed Hoyer have conducted followup interviews with each of the candidates, and Maddux appears to have taken himself out of contention.

Me too. He was in charge of a pitching staff that started the season with a lot of question marks and ended up maybe the best top to bottom pitching staff the Rangers have ever had.

Rangers just need to shore up the bullpen a little bit and maybe add a starter and they'll be poised to actually get themselves one.

Mark Buehrle?

Buehrle seems like a good candidate. I'm not sure he is a huge upgrade, but he would add some stability to get through the long season. Would love to see a starter who can be the ace to rely on in the playoffs. I hoped CJ would step up to that role this year, but he clearly failed.

Yeah I agree.

We thought we had shored up the bullpen. But they just didn't get it done.

CJ was just a huge disappointment in the playoffs.

I still expect us to win the division again, but we need better pitching to win it all.

I'm a little torn on what to think about the bullpen. Adams and Uehara were both very good pitchers before coming to Texas, so I hate to say they can't be again. Adams came around and at least did a decent job, but wasn't as good as expected. Uehara was just bad. I wonder about O'Day's status as well. I know he has been hurt a lot, but I wonder also if he was just a flash in the pan and we were lucky to get what we did from him while we did. After all, we picked him up after another team waived him.

Sounds like it's possible Feliz could again be looked at as a starter. I don't really know what to think of that - he didn't seem to tear it up when he flirted with starting in Spring Training, but maybe getting a quality reliever in (Masden?) and putting Feliz in the rotation may be the ticket. Feldman was finally healthy again in the playoffs, and he may be able to play a big role in either the bullpen or rotation.

The Rangers will never have an Ace unless they trade for one (Lee) or grow their own. Free Agent Pitchers will not come to ballparks that are offensive launching pads. The only way to get them here is to overpay them ... which the Rangers will never do.
