Lots of Trolls

But CF, we are not trolls, if we were we'd do what we do in the Members Zone and Off Topic out in gen pop and spend all of our time on the bench. Which might motivate Reality to create a Benched Zone for naughty posters such as ourselves. He could set up visiting hours when all y'all could come visit us because we'd be having the bestest time of anyone. We may be as redundant and as repetitive as gen pop but it's not always the same old jokes. Plus, we are gentler and kinder to each other that some in gen pop. Some really rude aholes out there hiding behind their monikers.

One difference that I have noticed here from the old DC.com, where a lot of us migrated from, is that we had our share of posters talking down to others but here there seems to be posters here for that specific purpose. They're so preoccupied with something turning into a political discussion that they overlook downright rude posters out there. And the ridiculous warnings from one of the mods every time a thread is started that might have the off chance of getting a little political is really getting annoying. What's with all of the threats?

Love the Members and Off Topic but if they weren't here, I wouldn't be. I was here once before and didn't discover the Off-Topic Zone and decided this was not my hang out. I have noticed that quite a few of our group do not spend a lot of time out in gen pop and I do only in segments. For some reason, some have taken an instant dislike for me and I can take that crap for just so long before I let go on them. This was exactly what happened the first time I was here.
 
I’m not calling out names specifically but some threads that have been started are hilarious. I enjoy the witty banter because it takes out the monotony of the everyday whine fest. And yes a great deal of the older members are very condescending but alas, I’m an outcast by many because I avoid clicks and don’t engage in the lameness..

All I can say is if you have an issue with the Mods, send them a pm or just ignore them all together. Calling them out in threads is a no win battle, akin to pissing in the wind..

Cleverly hidden under item 1 is this: #1 - You will not publicly question the actions of the staff or how this site is managed.

We do, however, welcome DMs telling us what idiots we are and explaining to us that words like 'butt****er' and '*******' aren't actually insults. Tell us we're biased, because that's not something we hear very much of. Maybe throw in something about our Napleonic complexes and about how we're just keyboard warriors hiding behind our moderator privs. You know, stuff no moderator anywhere has ever heard before from dudes who got into a drunk-posting slap fight the night before on the internet.

Speaking only for myself, I try hard to positively interpret intentions or get get by with a simple thread-banning or warning for somebody bending an obvious forum rule where I can, but rule #1 is one I happily enforce to the hilt. We don't get paid anything, but the benefits suck, so I have a low tolerance for people taking public shots at staff when it's clearly not tolerated. But then I also don't go into peoples' houses at parties and then complain about how they decorate their house or raise their kids. I may be weird in that way.

Finally, I'm obviously biased, but I feel like I've personally bent over backwards to be hospitable to the new guys (and I love having the new blood on the site, for the record). The condescending thing (that means looking down on stupider people) comes with the dinner, as Garrett would say. If my wife can deal with it, you anonymous internet knuckleheads probably can.

Ain't nobody got time to talk smack bout you, Idgit. Your username says it all...and I actually mean that as a compliment.
I think you've seen and mingled with us lowly new guys enough to know who means what, when they say whatever.

Hey Idgit, I didn't mean to set you off and I wasn't criticizing mods but that one practice of throwing up the threat when some thread that might possibly move in the political direction, which seems, at least to me, to be a strong preoccupation on this site. The warnings are up in red at the top, if it turns political just bench the perps. But then someone has to define just what political is because that is a little ambiguous.

I hope you and the other mods, including the one with the repeated threats, do not think I am openly criticizing you or the thankless job you've got because I am not. I made an open observation to another poster about the difference between the moderating at the two sites and what seemed to be the emphasis.

If my post bent you, I apologize as that was not my intent. I try my best to play well with others here.

And BTW, you being the welcoming party here for new members is one of the real positives of this site and I am very appreciative of how Reality relaxed the protocol for new members to accommodate the mass migration as he did not have to do that.

Definition is pretty simple. If you think that there is even a chance that it could be construed as political, then consider it political.

Guys, I'm just telling you now, this is an issue that nobody is going to win. This policy comes from the top and it's pretty much cut in stone, from what I can tell. I'd just drive on but that's up to you guys.

No worries. I don't bend easily. CF74 just started a conversation about the rules and the welcome here, so I thought I'd give my $.02.

Yes, the politics thing is a touchy subject here. Lots of Texans, lots if internet, lots of opportunities for politics and sports to intersect. Wherever they do, we get politics.

It's easy enough to ban or remove posters on most topics. Recently, we've been getting our politics in our sports and our sports in our politics. It's natural for people to come here and talk about that, but it's tough keeping those discussions where we went them to be sometimes. There are threads that start up right on the borderline all the time that have me smacking my forehead and committing to check in frequently because it's inevitably the direction they're going to drift.
