Oh, maybe when the talented DB's all got injured, and he did not develop any replacements. May have had something to do with moving on.

I might look at it the other way around.

Assistants generally have promotion opportunities elsewhere when they are on winning staffs. I wouldn’t call Dallas a promising situation in that regard.
