LVE Getting Work on the Dline?

I saw an LVE interview earlier in the week, and he talked about getting reps with the defensive line. So I guess there will be times we see him rush the passer more than last year. The way I see it, LVE could have one of his best years in 2023 given the defense stays relatively healthy and he has the right pieces around him.

The guy got so much undeserved hate last year from the fanbase that I started to wonder if I was missing something. Every time I went back to check if my eyes were lying, I saw the same thing: LVE playing well.

Let's hope he stays healthy in 2023.

Cowboys signed LVE on a super Cowboys friendly 2 year contract extension this past March. Leighton Vander Esch is back on a two-year, $11 million contract. According to OverTheCap, Vander Esch will count for $3.16 million against the cap in 2023, and $4.75 MM in 2024. That is super cheap compared to the top 5 LB pay in the NFL (range from $20 mil - $17 mil/season). If LVE continues his performance from what he showed in 2022, he might decide to shop around for much better pay elsewhere after this 2023 season.

$11 million is still quite a lot of money....

Great move, Quinn, work on the D line with LVE's fragile neck.

$11 million total for 2 years for a franchise starting middle LB is cheap. That averages out to $5.5 mil/season. LVE's cap hit ($3.16 million) for 2023 comes out to the 64th ranked salary for all linebackers in the NFL.

If LVE continues to produce in 2023 the way he produced in 2022, he most definitely will have a right to demand higher pay.

Not a bad idea as a surprise, with all the attention that MP gets, an occasional switcheroo role reversal between the 2 could cause confusion for OL's.

I'd say that we're getting pretty big bang for our proverbial buck right there..

I was speaking in terms of the average person, 11 million is quite a bit. As far as what he's worth in the scheme of cap, he's hooking it up just to stay here in Dallas.

I don't think he's ever been as good as his rookie year where he looked like a future Hall of Famer, to me at least. I guess it was injuries. Last year he did bounce back but he wasn't the same as year one.

I hope not unless we want him to constantly get injured. We know how injury prone LVE is especially that neck.

LVE on the line is absolutely laughable. That’s the last guy you want taking on blockers. If they’re talking about blitzing through a gap, sure, I suppose.

Not seeing it honestly but good on them for kicking the tires on all possibilities.

They could be just trying out different options. Does not mean he may get a lot of plays on the DL, if any.
It is the time to experiment.

Not a big deal IMO. More about diversifying looks and getting LVE out in space, not throwing him out there to get manhandled by offensive lineman.

This defense going to be like those better Patriots defenses. So many looks and so many vets who understand the system.
