Machota ranks Dallas position groups from strongest to weakest

He didn't run his usual depth routes. More like dump off catches. Still he scored 8 TDs. 4 drops & 3 fumbles hurt...2 turnovers out of the 3 fumbles. 82 receptions out of 100 targets, so I guess that's an 82% completion rate.

Not sure if I'd say he had good year, but 8 TDs ain't bad.
He was below average by most advanced metrics and grading systems for the reasons you mentioned as well as a few others.

These rankings are for all tight ends

EPA: 28 (expected points added)
Yards Per Route Run: 53 (two steps, catch, fall down)
Catch %: 38 (drops mainly)
Total Yards: 13

His PFF was 59.4 (32nd out of 38)

I was bummed we extended him because he truly is below average but he’s the 7th highest paid in the league.

I want a tight end in the first three rounds next year.

I think CD and Pick edges them out. Devante not quite what he was at GB while both CD and Pickens can play like 1st team all pros. They are 1, rams 2 and bengals 3 I think.
CeeDee and GP are both better than Adams . Adams is barely top ten, if that.

Both are obviously worse than Puka, who is the best receiver in the league and does things no one else can do. He’s an idiot though.

I don’t disagree at all. I just don’t think the drop off is that big though.

Aikman was competing against other HOFers. Steve Beurlein or anyone else who replaced Troy never looked as good - in the playoffs - as he did in the offense. Same with Emmitt. Same with Irvin.

When Dak goes out...guys like Cooper Rush win. I dunno...
You couldn't be more off base.

Bernie Kosar won us a NFC Championship Game after Aikman got hurt.

Jason Garrett looked like a Pro Bowler when he replaced Aikman (and Rodney Peete) on Thanksgiving in 1994.

Garrett was the THIRD STRING QB. He was 2-0 as a starter from 1993-1994.

Overall, the Cowboys went 8-1 in games without Aikman from 1991-1995 - including 1-0 in the playoffs, and that isn't even including the Kosar game in the 1993 NFCCG because Aikman started that game.

"Aikman was competing against other HOFers" - LOL, what does this even mean? There are future HOF QBs in the NFL today, and the discussion was about where your QB ranks among your own team's positional rankings.

"Cooper Rush wins"? Okay.

Cooper Rush as DAL starter: 9-5 record.

Aikman's backups from 1991-1995: 8-1 record, including 1-0 in playoffs.

Hmmm....safety should be behind DLine and Oline IMO. Saying a rookie has lifted the unit to the best on defense w/o a single regular season snap is overkill

We are all free to rank them as we see fit but your analysis on the changes we made at safety is WAY off. We not only drafted the top player in the draft at safety and according to some the top player in the draft overall, we also had our biggest free agent signing in years there, another free agent and kept a serviceable starter from last year who once he came back from injury was actually pretty good last year. Our safety depth chart on paper looks pretty darn good. Now throw in that our new DC is supposedly a little bit of a DB savant and it's a total overhaul, not just a rookie who hasn't played a single snap being added.

need to separate DT from Edge or DE
DT is the strongest position on the team
He does. DL covers the front 3 and OLB covers the edge rushers. He notes that DL is a strength with Q and Clarke, and that OLB is a weakness with Gary and the young guys.

I was one of those on the Trigg bandwagon before the draft and expected them to take him late, but it’s way too early to have him be the answer.

He’s has a couple of pretty big holes in his game and at this point is a raw one trick pony to be honest.

Name a top 5 QB with a worse Left Tackle.

Dak is overpaid without a doubt but he is also a legit MVP candidate.
His stats will absolutely be bolstered by the WRs same as his stats were lessened by LT play the last few seasons.

At the end of the day choosing to come bash Dak all day is simply mental illness.
and RT in pass pro

Oline should be strongest, since they have used 3 1st round picks

Lists like these are to divert our attention from seeing this team as a unit. Football is a team game as we all know. This team is not even close to competing against the top championship contenders from either conference.

So who cares where some tool wants to “rank “ positions within a team? A team that didn’t even make it past .500 last year.

Looks like it got your attention. Sucker. Lol

1. Wide receiver
2. Quarterback
3. Safety
4. Defensive line
5. Offensive line
6. Tight end
7. Running back
8. Outside linebacker
9. Special teams
10. Cornerback
11. Inside linebacker

If the goal is to win a super bowl, why is QB ranked at #2?
We have one of the league's best kicker (if not the best). We have one of the league's best punters. We have a steady long-snapper. And we have one of the league's best return man.

Unless Machota is rating it on our position coach, our special teammers are one of our top position groups, not near the bottom. I'd probably at least rate it behind OL ... and maybe better because we have a couple of weak links on the OL and none of our specialists are weak links.

Another preposterous take. Aikman left the game with a 28-7 lead. Kosar didn't win the game, he just didn't lose it.

Special Teams

Turpin - a good KR/PR can be negated somewhat, especially on punts with high punts forcing a fair catch or intentionally kick balls out of bounds.

Aubrey - we passed up multiple FG opportunities because we were behind too many points and/or did not trust our defense. Why would we attempt a 60+ FG early in the game, knowing if we missed, it is going to result in an automatic TD for the other team.

Fair enough. I forgot what the score was at the time.

Can you dispute anything else I wrote?
