Mahomes is a winner, he wants to win and he hates losing, we have no one with that mindset.
I’m not comparing the two as players but you know Dak restructured his contract pretty much every year so far right? As have most of our high $ players when approached. Restructuring puts cash in the players pocket up front. It is a great thing from the players perspective

Why can't we do this

The Cowboys do that just about every year. They just did it with Martin's contract in fact.

Players are usually willing to accept a "restructuring" because it usually means they get more upfront money as a result.

Whenever a good player's contract is restructured, they are not taking less money. The team is simply shifting their base salary into a signing bonus spread out over an additional year or two, usually voidable years.

That allows the team to free up salary cap space and allows the player to make more money in the current year (less salary, but immediate signing bonus money) than they would have.

The reason the Chiefs can do it with Mahomes is because he has several more years on his existing contract given he signed a 10-year contract in 2020.

They could do that with Dak but they would have to extend him first.

Don’t reach and troll. A lot of what you’ve said the last few days is fine. But surely you’re smart enough to know the player doesn’t restructure anything. And every contract in the NFL basically does this to create room. Come on man.

Why can't we do this

Not sure how he can do that. He only has a $10 million base this year. The rest are bonuses. Maybe he's structuring his base over multiple years?

Think Dak will do the same?

Not a chance in hell.
Huh? Maybe I'm missing the sarcasm? I'm all for bashing Dak when it makes sense to do so, but Dak has restructured his deal pretty much every year...it's actually the main reason he is going to count $60M against the cap this year.

Do you realize how many times they've restructured contracts in Dallas, Dak included?

They had/have lots of options. Extend Lamb, restructure Dak, etc etc. No point in doing that now as FA is dead for real players of need. The rest of the bunch are low level one year vet deals…….

Big cap space can be created by 1 restructure of a large contract.
  • Mahomes due 58 million in 2024
  • KC restructures
  • Creates over 21 million in cap this year
Jerry didn’t want the money available because he wasn’t going to spend it in FA.

Dak's contract is what happens when you repeatedly restructure a deal. That money doesn't magically go away. It all comes due eventually. The difference is Mahomes is winning Super Bowls while Dak is losing in the first round.

They'll probably do something simular to what they did last year. Jerry said he'd rather get three for the price of one. Hopefully, they will do as good as they did last year.
