Mailbag: What If Dak Isn't Signed By Draft Day?

I think it is an impossible scenario. Either Dak will be a FA before the draft or will have signed his tag. There is absolutely no way Dak does not sign his franchise tag for $37M. Absolutely no way. Dak would sign in a split second given his condition where he won’t be able to pass a physical until Aug at the earliest best case scenario and no team is offering him jack squat.

Say, Dak can’t play this season or starts on PUP, that is the easiest $37M ever made by anyone. Dak would be laughing all the way to the bank and the ‘church of Dak’ worshippers would be blaming Jerry for wasting $37M.

It would be ridiculous to franchise tag Dak. Where is Dak going? To the Colts? Nope. Jags? Nope. Jets? Nope, they either keep Darnold or draft one. Any team out there with $20-30M to burn on the cap in Aug and willing to sign Dak for $200M? Nope.

I'm laughing watching it (anything Dak with the Cowboys) eat you up!

Patriots, Washington, Broncos, Panthers, Dolphins....all teams with at least $19M in available cap space going into the off season and a need at QB. At least do a little research before you make awful takes like this

Patriots wouldn’t pay Brady $25M and you think they would pay Dak $40M.

I highly doubt WFT would pay Dak $40M with Smith and they just signed their backup. They did look at Stafford.

Broncos and Panthers rumored to be interested in Watson but just a reporter getting clicks. No truth. Panthers and Broncos not desperate for a QB. Lock and Bridgewater. Both have high picks and could land a QB if they want.

Dolphins need a QB? Really? Did you do your research? Did your research tell you they just spent the 5th pick on Tua?

1. Brady chose to leave New England, had nothing to do with $.

2. Glad to know you think you’re the authority on what teams are or arent doing with their rosters. Do you also play dress up?

3. Guess you didn’t see Tua get benched in important games for Fitz because he was terrible?

Based on your responses it’s obvious you don’t even watch football.

You absolutely CANNOT say there’s no way Dak doesn’t sign the tag - he’ll do what his agent tells him to do. Right now I see Dak as having played his last down in a Cowboys uni. At this point I’d rather have Mac Jones and be done with the drama. After Lawrence, he might wind up being just as good as Wilson, maybe better since Wilson choked against the only decent team they saw in Coastal Carolina.

I do not think Mac Jones is worth the 10th overall pick.

Lance is such a wildcard. Though I do think you have to consider trading Dak and drafting a QB if he isn’t signed by the draft.
This is a draft where nobody after the top 7-8 picks is worth where they’re gonna go. Just isn’t your typical draft. Everybody needs to realize this.

It’s possible that’s the case. A lot of that depends on how the board falls though.

I just think if you’re taking Mac Jones at 10. You’re taking a QB for the sake of taking a QB. Not because he is the best player available and probably not because you think he is the next elite QB.

There will be a better overall player available at 10. Then Mac Jones. Taking a QB just to take one, is a recipe for disaster.

No question........otherwise we lose damn near ALL leverage after the draft. I think about it, most, if not all QB needed will settle their issues via free agency or draft. Of course, knowing there won't be a 3rd tag, he simply sign the 2nd tag and leaves the Cowboys with only two options........pay me what I want or I'm walking after the season.

If Dak were to leave it would be Chicago IMO. It makes the most sense.

Franchise tag Dak, if he doesn't sign a long term deal by the draft call every team about trading him before the draft starts.
Starting price will be 2 1st round picks, and a day 2 pick.

Im hoping the Commanders would bite and give us 2 firsts with the exclusive tag.

He did say that right now he sees Dak as having played his last down for the Cowboys. QB is the one position in the draft that QB needy teams will take regardless of BPA.
