(CBS) SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco police said Monday that the victim of a stabbing incident outside Candlestick Park Sunday before the 49ers-New York Giants NFL game was targeted because he was wearing a Dallas Cowboys jersey.
Previous reports indicated everyone involved was a 49ers fan. Two men have been arrested.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Kristopher Viana, 22, and Alexandro Arguelles, 30, were arrested after allegedely attacking a 27-year-old resident of Elk Grove as he walked with his friends to the game at around 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

According to investigators, Viana and Arguelles verbally harassed the man because of his Cowboys jersey. The argument quickly escalated to a physical fight which then took a more violent turn when Viana and Arguelles left and allegedly returned with a knife.

What is wrong with people these days? "Hey look, that guy is a fan of another team! Kill him!"

People tend to forget its just a GAME. Not a gang or whatever else they want to believe.

I should not have to worry about putting my life at risk just to go to another team's stadium.

I worked in SF a LOT in the early 90's... Niner fans are among the most vile, inconsiderate people you will ever meet... all the while purporting "tolerance"... hypocrite much?

The season ticket holders I knew used to brag about peeing off the upper deck on opposing fans...

I know we have some Bay Area Cowboy fans on here... they can attest...

I have story after story in that beautiful city... their fans reduce it to Philly status...

Disturbing and unfortunately becoming a way too frequent story of our times...But, I have to raise the question.

What is your thought process, gong to a game wearing the jersey of a team that isn't even involved in the contest? ESPECIALLY, as polarizing a team as we all know the Cowboys are and, in a city with the history SF and Dal has? Not to mention the fact, that the other team involved hates Dallas just as violently!

I'm more than confident, the 27 yr old Dallas fan put that jersey on, knowing full well and likely hoping, it would illicit some negative response...and guess what...it did.

I've heard Galloway say the same thing. One day he was talking about the roughest, most thuggish fan bases and he put San Fran right there with Philly. Surprised the other people on the show for the reasons you said, but he said there was no doubt they were one of the worst.

That's crazy. I thought San Francisco fans were pretty mild when I went. I was walking around yelling GO COWBOYS.

Thugs will probably be priced out when they move to the new stadium in Silicon Valley in a couple years.

Even when they want to fight Giants fans they end up fighting themselves haha!!

You should be able to wear whatever you want to a game. This reminds me of the argument women shouldn't wear short skirts because if they do, "they're asking for it" - and that of course is BS.

We live in a free country and one shouldn't be attacked, injured or murdered just because of a football jersey.

These ignorant idiots take the games way too damn far, it's a damn game, nothing more.

I agree but why would you wear the jersey of a team not even playing in the game?

WOW, man, ... that is ignorance at the highest level.

Ignorance too deep to even imagine.

Fighting because of the NFL team you cheer for ??

Why does it matter what jersey is worn at a game?

Does it matter if he had a nose ring? Wore an outlandish clothes? make up? Weird hairdo?

What doesn't it matter?

It doesn't matter, but obviously the guy was trolling. I doubt even a fight would have occurred if he was just there in a Cowboys Jersey. He was mouthing off to people. I guarantee it.
