Manny Diaz will accept the job as Texas Longhorn defensive coordinator as early as Wednesday, sources close to Longhorn football has confirmed.

With Diaz and Davis in the fold and Chryst and Bostad looking like they might be also, that gives Texas a unique opportunity to recruit SEC and Big Ten players to Texas, should they decided to. Historically, Texas has not recruited out of state much but with this group of Coaches, they could absolutely look to change that if they decided to.

Mississippi State defensive coordinator Manny Diaz has agreed to become the new defensive coordinator at Texas, The Clarion-Ledger has learned.

They have it great already by dominating the in-state recruiting. If they can get a few (not many) more elite out-of-staters I'm sure Mack wouldn't mind.

He's not a nationally known name but in the SEC, he is very well thought of. Go check out an SEC board and see what they say about him. I think you will be happy with what you read.

All of the SEC fans thinks he's a good one. He made Michigan's spread offense look silly in the gator bowl and Michigan's offense wasn't the problem with Rich. It was their terrible defense.

Mississippi State defensive coordinator Manny Diaz has agreed to become the new defensive coordinator at Texas, The Clarion-Ledger has learned.

Diaz’s Mississippi State defense in 2010 allowed the third-fewest points per game (20.3) and eighth-fewest yards (358.1 per game) in the Southeastern Conference. The Bulldogs were particularly stingy against the run, allowing 121.7 yards per game, and on third down, where opponents converted just 35.4 percent of their opportunities.




Is this actually good? Eighth in the SEC? Out of 12 teams! That pass defensive numbers are a little suspect. That's 250 yards a game in a run first league! That's like 500 yards a game in the Big XII! How are those numbers going to look in the Big XII? Time will tell. I'm all for it if it opens doors to kids we haven't reached out to before.

I wonder if the Chryst deal came down to a recruiting issue. I mean, I was looking for Harsin of Boise State to get a look. But Mack rerouted Chryst's plane to Texas. After all, Harsin isn't actually in a recruiting hot bed (Idaho?!)! Not trying to degrade the region but I'd have to think that the Big 10 has a little more talent regionally. Chryst on the other hand, may have some recruits in mind to bring with him. Just my 2 cents for what it's worth.

You have to remember this is with Mississippi State, at the end of the day you are limited by the talent of your players and Mississippi state just doesn't get the same quality recruits as the other top SEC schools.
