I don't think they get any extra viewers by putting people like Mariah or J-Lo in the judges seat. The show needs to be about the contestants, not the already wildly successful judges. People like Randy Jackson and even Paula Abdul (when sober) kinda made sense because their careers had already matured & moved on. They originally had 1) a record exec, 2) a musician/producer, and 3) a singer/performer. I think this gave a good balance of backgrounds, even if Paula mailed in most of her responses.

Going for the current superstar judge (J-Lo, Steven Tyler, Mariah) is being used as a platform from which they can launch their own personal projects. It kinda annoys me.

Having been to an X Factor audition, the crowd was certainly out for Brittainy Spears. I know, it surprised me too. Don't exactly know if that will transfer to viewership, but it certainly did for the live audience.

There were some real great performers from the Austin area, probably will be shining on the show.

PS. The 'Insult Simon Cowell' schtick definitely seems to be a failing audition tactic.

Shes a complete narcissistic fool
I thought that had become a prerequisite to getting the judge's job these days. ;)

Mariah Carey is undoubtedly a top echelon, narcissistic diva... no argument here. Maybe second only to Simon Cowell in the annals of American Idol, depending on your particular definition of the term, lol.

Yeah not bad but she is a songwriter and not a performer ala Paula Abdul and Jennifer Lopez.

nope. sorry.

I really don't know why they do not.

End it now because it is already on the downhill slide and will continue to go down IMO.

After seconds of research I found the answer. Money.
