Apparently Ross Perot, Jr. had filed a lawsuit alleging Cuban was reckless in running the Mavericks. As a minority owner of the club, he asked that the Court appoint a receiver to run the team.

There's no doubting Cuban's sense of humor is contained in this Motion for Summary Judgment he filed. The "World Champion Dallas Mavericks" included in their motion, a true and correct photo of one of the many victory celebrations... :laugh2:

lol, I'm not sure how I would take that if I were the judge proceeding over this case. I wouldn't know whether to laugh or be insulted by the filing. :laugh2:

Alamo Rent-A-Car sued the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio for using their name without their sponsorship.

I hope that the irony of what I just said was not missed. Let me clarify. They sued because they did not pay anyone millions of dollars to be a sponsor.

Alamo Rent-A-Car is located in Florida. The actual Alamo...San Antonio, Texas.

The Defense attorney for the Alamo Bowl's entire defense was to read the names of the businesses from the business section of the San Antonio phone book. As you might guess there were hundreds of them. He then placed a picture of the actual Alamo on an easel and rested his case.

That's funny, but it's such an obvious defense anyone in Texas would have thought of it. Attaching "Alamo" to a business name or event is common in Texas and sxponentially more so in the San Antonio area.

The funniest part of it to me was they were angry that they had not sponsored the Bowl game. If anyone in the world is dumb enough to look at the Alamo Bowl and think it is sponsored by Alamo Rent a Car, it means you got that advertising for free.

To be fair, the suit was filed before the Alamo bowl existed, as the rental car company tried to impede its inception with that name. Presumably they wanted to leave open the option of sponsoring their own bowl game elsewhere (indeed later that year and in other years they sponsored a few other games).

Despite the in-court hilarity, both sides actually settled out of court. Under the agreement, bowl organizers promised not to move their game from San Antonio, or to change its name if they do.

Heard one a while back that I have no idea if it is true or not. A guy bought a bunch of really expensive cigars and insured them for like a grand apiece. After he smoked them he filed an insurance claim that said they had been destroyed in 16 separate small fires.

Supposedly the insurance company was on the hook for it too so they had to settle.

As soon as he cashed the check they had him arrested for 16 counts of intentional arson.
