Well I believe Mike Zimmer had he got more than one offseason could have helped this team as well kind of not on him that we had a record amount of injuries on defense so yes him not being here more than one year is unstable but he's also one of those coordinators that's much better as a coordinator than a head coach...

TBH That is a really big list all over the NFL if you really wanted to compile the coordinators who are great coordinators but average to terrible as head coaches I mean it would take a while to compile that list that's pretty much the norm it's very rare for a coordinator to become a head coach and then be very successful...

He did get Atlanta to a Super Bowl, though, so I'm not sure how much of a coaching failure that is. At this point, I would have taken that from any of our past six head coaches.

Yeah, I'm not knocking Zimmer because he had a lot to overcome. I don't know if Eberflus would have done any better.

Yeah well his defense got destroyed he was what we thought he was as far as defense goes that sure looked like the Green Bay game to me you know on the way out the door you can blame Jerry and he doesn't do this and that on the defensive line well what was the excuse getting ran over in many games and in that championship game I mean that is the Dan Quinn I remember head coach or coordinator....choked lol

As an HC his defenses choked in the last seconds of a couple of games, most notably the hail mary vs Washington last season.

I've learned to temper my expectations for coordinators, but I will say that some coaches are just much better as coordinators than they are as head coaches.

Coaches like Wade Phillips, Steve Spagnuolo, Vic Fangio, etc. were good defensive coordinators, but their head coaching results were disappointing.

I hope Eberflus builds a solid defense for the Cowboys and, if so, that he sticks around so they can finally have some stability on the defensive side.

There’s so many factors that go into a head coach being successful that are out of his control that IMO it’s unfair to make a final judgement saying he’s not a good HC but only a good coordinator. Sorry for the run on sentence.

They held eight teams under 20 points. We held three teams under 20 points.

Now, some of that might be schedule, but the Bears' defense did better against the same opponents. We gave up 34 to the Texans; they gave up 19. We gave up 26 and 23 to Washington; they gave up 18. We even gave up 14 to Carolina, and they gave up 10.

Of course, it isn't like our defense last year was the gold standard for defensive play, but the Bears' D was better.

I also think if we look at Indy's defense when he was just focusing on being a DC, it's promising.

Eberflus led Indianapolis’ defense to rank 10th and 11th in scoring defense and total defense during their 2018 season, after starting at 30th in both categories in 2017.

He has produced two top-10 units in total defenses, six top-10 units in rushing defenses, four top-10 units in scoring defenses and four top-10 units in turnovers created.

why compare Dallas learning a new defense with Zimmer (who was pretty much checked out mentally) to eberflus who was in Chicago for 3 years? Eberflus at best is a low end top 10 type of coordinator. Atleast Zimmer and Quinn have reached the highest peaks in their careers.

I agree to some point, but those coaches I listed had multiple chances and failed to produce results.

They were not horrible head coaches, but simply were not able to to succeed in the top spot.

That's not meant to be a criticism but rather an appreciation for the things they can do well.

This is a talented group of coaches and with demonstrated effectiveness. They easily fall within the generalization of meeting most game changing situations. Then it is football.
