Did anyone expect him to struggle as badly as he has so far this year? I didn't. I didn't expect him to be a top QB or anything. Defenses get a chance to actually prepare for you when you get named the starter prior to the season, so I expected him to have his ups and downs as he transitioned into being a true starting QB. I just did not expect what he has done up to this point and that includes the pre-season. It is still very early.

Pre-season
28 completions
57 attempts
49.1%
4.9 YPA
0 TDs
1 INTs
56.10 QB rating

2 games so far
20 completions
49 attempts
40.8%
6.3 YPA
2 TDs
4 INTs
41.79 QB rating

He's had a rough couple of games, but it doesn't help that Carolina has literally one receiving target on their team and that's a Steve Smith who has clearly lost a step. I think Clausen will be worse and they'll end up going back to Matt Moore.

I remember thinking he would be a good backup in this league. It appears that may be all he ever is.

The Panthers aren't exactly the perfect situation for a QB. Especially a young one.

Put him behind Payton Mannings offensive line and I bet he looks a lot better. I'm not saying he would be a pro bowler, I'm just saying this is a team game his team isn't that great.

You guys aren't giving him a fair shake here.

One thing is clear though, he can't let the pressure cause him to force the ball and throw INTs. Experience will help resolve that though. He is a smart kid.

The Panthers did have a very strong running game last year. One of the best in the league. This year, so far they are only 16th. I will be keeping an eye on him. Who knows, he may not keep his job in Carolina and could come back to Dallas as a back up.
