Im looking to get a Queen size bed for around 400-650 dollars.

Im thinking of getting a Serta because thats what Sams carries so I think i'll get the best value through them.

Anyways I was wanting to know if you guys had any opinions of the pillow top mattress?

Do they last? Are they more hot or cool in the summer?

Any info would be appreciated.

At $400 I wouldn't expect to much out of it. Especially in how long it will last.

A good mattress should last 10 years. The last mattress I purchased before I got married I paid about $550 for. It lasted maybe 5 years.

The one we have now, we got on sale for $1,500 in March 2005. It retailed for about $2,100 back then. So far (7 yeras) it's still in good shape.

This might sound ridiculous but I bought a mattress of amazon a while back.

I have moved just about every year for the last 4-5 years and I hate moving stuff so I went with a platform bed and memory foam mattress just reduce the number of pieces I have to move. No box spring and I might not take the platform with me when I move next time.

I pretty much just went online and looked at the reviews that people had given the mattress.

I don't remember if I got this one or the 12'' but this is the company that makes them.

I like it. It's comfortable and I haven't had any problems with it getting too hot. That was my main concern and it hasn't really been an issue at all.

lol. I would agree.

I had a tempurpedic, and loved it for the first couple of weeks, but then I just grew to hate the thing.

I walked into a mattress store and told them I wanted the softest mattress on earth. They had one for $5000 that I laid on and I have never felt anything so good in my life, but I couldn't see spending that kind of money on a mattress, then the salesman said that he had the same model in the back of the store that was returned after 2 nights from some old couple who said it was "too soft", and he'd sell it to me for $3000. I bought it right there, but never told the wife that it was a "return". This was about 4-5 years ago, and the thing still looks and feels brand new.

I just bought a Hampton & Rhodes queen pillow top in that range from matress firm and love it. Haggle and you can get free delivery or mattress cover.

No idea why someone would hate a temporpedic except that I can see it being a bit warmer during the summer months.

Since I switched to mine it has saved me 2 disk operation surgeries because it literally changed the way I was sleeping. I swear by them and got my son 1 as well. My co-worker across the hall I talked into getting one, he also swears by his. He says he has never slept better in his life.

Some folks are just different when it comes to how they rest. I could never sleep on a ball of cotton. I have to have support.

Hoof,

Im going to pick up a platform. I think those look pretty cool and it will get rid of dust collecting from under my bed.

I haven't ever tried a memory foam.. Is it hot in the summer or do you feel no difference?

I need something more firm for my back so I don't know if the memory foam is for me.

I actually bought it last september and I right now I'm in a very dry climate.

I haven't had any problems with it getting hot. The house is generally pretty cool where I am though.

I don't know how it would fair in a more humid climate but where I am at, it's fine.

And it's a little more firm than I had expected.

If it weren't for the means by which they ship it, I'd say you could just give it a shot and return it but it comes vacuum sealed and there's no way to get it back down to size once it expands.

You're supposed to give it about a day breathe before sleeping on it.

Like I said, I bought it based on the reviews. Generally how I buy stuff anymore. Sometimes I don't even really care who makes an item, if it has hundreds of great reviews on Amazon I think it's pretty solid.

When we bought ours, I walked in and said I wanted the firmest mattress they had.

I'd love to try a Tempurpedic, but I'm scared that I won't like it. I have a really bad back and if I don't sleep on the right bed, it can be incapacitating for me.

You probably weren't sold a "return" as most states have labeling laws governing used bedding. Sounds like it was just a way to overcome your price objections.

This might be the cheap Indian in me, but you should try negotiating on the floor models. I got some brand King Koil for half off because it was a floor model. Paid like 450 for it. Supposedly if you give things like this a shot a month end it helps.

Anyway I've been very happy with it, as all that have slept on it. The only thing that sucks is its dipped in where I lay...but it's been like 10 years so perhaps expected?

I bought one of those $500 Serta's 3 years ago. A few weeks ago I woke with excruciating back pain. (And I have never had back pain before). I went to the local furniture store and bought a new comfy set for $600. It is made locally here in Texas (Corsicana I think). Back pain is now completely gone. That Serta mattress didn't last and was killing my back! I figure for $600 that I paid for the new set, I will just buy another new set in about 3 years.

Aren't those Tempurpedics really expensive? I can't see paying that much for a mattress. I would rather buy a new set in a couple of years. But that's just me. :) Although, those Sleep Number beds look interesting. I know they are super expensive too, though.

The only person I know that still has a waterbed is my boyfriend. He loves it.

I guess you have to do that sort of thing when you get on people's nerves like that.

Probably evicted each time because he couldn't pay. :laugh2:

...which besides the fact that he doesn't own an actual bed would be another reason he isn't married. :lmao2: :lmao:

Nah, I do contract work that takes me from city to city to eliminate certain persons in very discreet manners that appear accidental.

An actual bed? Would that be one of them ones that have a coin slot on the side?

On the subject of bedding... I broke my neck about 15 years ago and I had a very hard time sleeping for years. One trip I stayed at a Hampton Inn and fell in love with their pillows. I asked them about buying one and the hotel said they didn't sell them. The manager then told me they got a new shipment in and if I wanted one he would give me one. It was brand new and still sealed. I have been in love with these pillows ever since. I was thrilled when they started to sell their bedding. Now I buy a new pillow from them every two years because they do wear down after a while. But I spend 80.00 per pillow. I still have some neck and back pain but nothing like before the Hampton Inn pillow.
