Mavs sign Carlisle to 4 year deal

No surprise here-- Mavs locked up Carlisle for 4 more years.
This was step one in the offseason, as possible Free Agents need to know who the coach will be.

the most important move the mavs could make, IMO. He is one of the best coaches in the NBA, and no coach available outside of Phil Jackson will help bring in talent more than him.

Rick's done a great job. A bunch of people were whining about him not having a deal done earlier, but they didn't realize that he basically did have a deal in place already. This is why it irks me when people complain and criticize about things they don't know anything about.

That's right.
Cuban and Nelson would never let him fly. These three basically make all the personnel decisions as a group at this point.

Carlisle was on the Galloway show for an hour the other day. Man is he pumped about the upcoming month (and year). But he says they really are set up to make moves the next two years if need be.

The goal according to him (and nelson/Cuban) is to " make Dirk the second best player on the team" in the near future.

It also sounds like there is interest in Odom..and they could pair him with someone to at least get some value.

I heard that. Theres whispers of Dallas trading Odom and Marion for Pau Gasol. Odom and Marion for Josh Smith and Pachulia. I guess his contract is very nice chip. He wants to go back to LA. I would like a Pau and Dirk and Haywood rotation.Get DWILL or Nash or Dragic. Cj Miles as a 2. I also wouldnt mind getting KG and DWILL or Dragic or Nashy. KG is beasting at center and is a FA.

At times like these I realize that I really am getting old... I remember when Rick helped lead the Virginia Cavaliers to the NCAA Final Four back in 1984...

Me too.

A also remember that it was one of UNC's best teams ever and they didn't even make it the elite 8. Jordan, Perkins, Brad Daugherty, Kenny Smith, Joe Wolfe, Matt Dohertey....jeesh.

The irony for UVa was that they were so great with Sampson and everyone thought with him gone, no way. But they made it to the Final 4 without him.
