Barber picked it up in the second quarter, but I was disappointed with him when he ran with the starters in the first quarter. I felt like that first drive stalled when he got in there. Certainly nothing to worry about ... just an observation.

Also, if Johnson could have hit Barber in stride on several short passes he would have gained BIG yards!

I thought Jones ran well for the time he had in there.

":lmao: it's 1st preseason game" that quote should be a smiley face

And Jones looked like garbage.

ignorant post of the day here

But you can't argue with the 1.9 average on 10 carries Barber had before the two big runs. Jones was clearly the loser with only 3.9 on 6 carries.....

I didn't think so. Didn't look fantastic and he's not a quick enough slasher to the hole yet, but it was a decent start to the preseason for JuJo.

If he doesn't change his running style and ends up looking like he did when Parcells was here, though, he'll have a whole lot of crow to eat.

I think this team is an elite runner away from being dominating on offense. Barber is not a #1 in this league. I think Jones is still our #1, but I think we are pretty average in the run game. Remember though that our 2 tackles were not playing.

Actually i was just one upping the thread starter on overreaction. Doesn't matter one bit at this point.

Sorry if I took a leak in anyone's Cheerios by posting my observations. You're welcome to your own opinions.

I agree. Our 2 starting tackles being out didn't help anything.

First team against first team, I just thought Jones did a little better tonight. I was pleased to see him handle that pass well and turn it upfield, too.

Battle didn't show me much tonight ....

You could very well be right about Barber, and i'm certain you'r right about JJ. That's why one would have to be excited at the prospect of an elite RB prospect in the top 10 next April. I think JJ and Barber are good enough to win with if the Colts can win a SB with the 2 they had last year, be i'd like to see a big time Bush type guy(Slaton) or Larry Johnson type(DMac) :D

Big Dak ... I am not over reacting in the least. These are just opinions/observations, and I said, "Certainly nothing to worry about ... just an observation." in my original post.

Barber just looked like he needed to get warmed up

That was what I saw too. A lot of great backs often didn't look good early in games but they picked it up as the game went on. I'm not saying that Barber is a "great back" just that his early performance was nothing to worry about. They rode Barber hard in the second quarter and I thought he responded very well.

Same thing with Jones last year. They started limiting his carries and his yards went down. I am just glad that we have 2 good but unspectacular backs. Some teams don't even have 1.

Jones is capable of being spectacular...we've all seen it. However, he is also capable of disappearing in games...unfortunately we've seen that too. If we can get a few spectacular plays from Jones and fill in with the consistency that Barber brings we should be able to field a pretty decent running game.

In this game it was the other way around, Jones was reliable, Barber was horrific until he hit those two runs. But things change as the season comes and the starting line plays together.

I dont think we'll see Jones disappearing much this yr...teams have so much to worry about in our passing game that they really cant load up on the run...everyone knew Parcells was going to play conservative as much as possible, I doubt Garrett will stay conservative if it isnt working...if our key guys stay healthy there will be alot of lanes to run through
