I would do that too....as long as the guy wasn't wearing a backpack. ;)

There are Angels among us...and this man is one of them. What goes around, comes around, and I hope someday, somehow, this brave man will get his dues.

Wow! Unbelievable balls to do that and with your two daughters there it must've been horrifying. I want to buy that man a beer!

How he determined that he could make it under the train is the fascinating thing. That guy was lucky that a construction worker was there because only he was the only one that could have made a decision like that. Making that choice in a couple of seconds is why that guy is a hero though.

This is actually an older story, but still awesome.

One quibble with the news report though: it's more uncommon to be on the NY subway and not see someone give up their seat for a disabled person, elderly person, or obviously pregnant person than not.

By the way, there was a similar rescue in 1987, when 3 bystanders tried to save a man who had fallen onto the tracks, but couldn't get him over. They also used the trench and all escaped relatively unharmed.

Story here.

I ride the subway almost every single day, and I see people offer their seats a lot. The one time I noticed that it doesn't happen as much is when the subway is packed. I think that has more to do with physically changing places in such a tight space though.

Of course there are those that do not do it, but generally if someone is in need, they do it.

Awesome story, thanks for sharing. That's amazing. I don't think I'd even think to lay down in the middle of the tracks and hope the train clears us. Good stuff.
