Mentality shift? I thought we all thought Joneses strongly prefer play-calling OC

Presumably, it was even going to be a demand of theirs to McCarthy, that he give up play calling duties in order to remain in DAL.

Not getting that sense now that we have a rookie HC... ie, someone without a lot of leverage to be demanding... who hasn't even been the play caller in DAL during his own OC tenure... who will be the play-calling HC.

Did we have it wrong all along, or have the Joneses mellowed on that? And if mellowed, why here why now?

Not a statement wrapped in a question. I'm legit asking.

Play calling went downhill after Moore left. That isn't a secret. I was NEVER impressed with McCarthy's play calling. It sucked all over the field but especially in the Red Zone. So I am glad it's possible that was a condition of McCarthy returning.

In sure it was the main reason. Initially we thought he was low balled and being pressured to bring in Witten.
Witten doesnt appear to be coming. If JJ is being honest they never got to contract issues.

Now hiring Schott and having him call plays has to be what the main dealbreaker was for MM.

For the record, the next time I read a fan of any football team, NFL or college, actually compliment his/her team's play calling following a losing season?

That will be a first.

If there's one consistent thing fans always beach and moan about, it's that they could do so much better play calling than the guy who called plays.

hehe

But but but... the point is well taken... so, you believe it was a McCarthy-specific preference... and, one would suppose, then, a Garrett-specific preference. (I forget, did Chan Gailey call his own plays?)

Maybe. I don't think so, but maybe.

It sounds like they wanted to take playcalling away from MM and give it to Schotty
Because MM is such a bad play caller, but such an excellent head coach? Huh???

Hard sell.

MM's whole reputation in GB was built on his being an effective offensive coordinator.

So, to the contrary... the on-going theme of criticism you'd here from media who spend time in The Star has always been that MM needed a play caller so he could be a better head coach... didn't so much matter who (though certainly Kellen was highly regarded, so all the more reason)... it mainly mattered to them that MM wasn't having to invest so much time in one side of the ball.

Besides, if Joneses thought Schotty was some incredible play caller such that ti was all about Schotty's capabilities, it's... also... a hard sell... that MM would have been compelled by his bosses to replace KM with Schotty immediately (off-season 2023), or the next off-season (2024) following what can only be considered a comparatively strong season on offense.
