WEB VOTE How would you best describe Bill Parcells' personnel moves so far as Dolphins boss?

Solid but not spectacular

Questionable at best

Too early to tell

When top receiving prospect Dez Bryant was showing his skills to more than a dozen NFL teams Tuesday in Lufkin, Texas, Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland and football boss Bill Parcells hung behind at the team's Davie facility.

They instead were getting a closer look at Alabama inside linebacker Rolando McClain, another prospect who was visiting with the Dolphins. So does that mean McClain has a better shot at being the team's first-round pick (12th overall) in the draft?

Have fun trying to read those tea leaves.

Here's what is worth noting:

Bryant's Pro Day on Tuesday wasn't overly impressive … but it wasn't devastating, either. His 40-yard dash, when taking multiple reports into account, ranged from 4.52 to 4.68 seconds on different attempts. Those times were measured with and against the wind.

The Dolphins weren't represented at the Pro Day by any of their top officials, unlike several other teams around the league, but they did have an area scout in attendance.

Then again, consider this: Two years ago, when the Dolphins had the No. 1 overall pick, they had only one scout at tackle Jake Long's Pro Day.

McClain's presence still is worth noting. He surely won't be available in the second round, so if the Dolphins decide they want him, they will have to take him with the No. 12 pick … even though they recently signed Karlos Dansby.

Tuesday might have seemed like a busy day, but in the grand scheme, it was just another day leading up to the draft.

Texas safety Earl Thomas, who also fits a need for the Dolphins … although he would be a reach at No. 12 and likely won't last until the second round … also is scheduled to visit the team's facility this week.

Sportswriter Armando Salguero contributed to this report.
