After the end of the 2025 draft, The Cowboys started this draft season with a pick in each of the first 5 rounds and a 7th round pick. They were eventually awarded two compensatory 5th round picks. So, starting with eight 2025 draft picks, here is how they've been used.

1. 2026 3rd round pick ==> Steelers from the Cowboys for WR George Pickens. (Cowboys also swapped their 2027 5th round pick for the Steelers 2027 6th round pick.)

2. DE Micah Parsons trade to the Green Bay Packers for DT Kenny Clark, plus Packers 2026 first round pick (Cowboys also received Packers 2027 first round pick)

3. 2026 2nd round pick, plus DT Mazi Smith, plus 2027 first round pick ==> Jets for DT Quinnen Williams.

4. Osa Odighizuwa ==> 49ers for 2026 3rd round .

5. Cowboys 2026 1st round pick, plus both 2026 compensatory 5th round picks ==> Dolphins for 2026 1st round pick. Cowboys select S Caleb Downs.

6. Packers 2026 1st round pick ==> Eagles for 2026 1st round pick, plus two 4th round picks (114 & 137)

So, this is the balance of what the Cowboys have given up vs. what they have received in return so far.

Cowboys gave up:
  • 2026 1st round pick (to Miami)
  • Packers' 2026 1st round pick
  • 2026 2nd round pick (to Jets)
  • 2026 3rd round pick (to Steelers)
  • 2026 comp 5th round pick
  • 2026 comp 5th round pick
  • DE Micah Parsons
  • DT Mazi Smith
  • DT Osa Odighizuwa
  • Packers' 2027 1st round pick (used for Quinnen Williams trade)
  • 2027 5th round pick - (to Steelers)
Cowboys have received:
  • DT Kenny Clark
  • MIA 2026 1st round pick - used to select S Caleb Downs
  • DT Quinnen Williams (2026 2nd round pick)
  • WR George Pickens (2026 3rd round pick
  • Eagles 2026 1st round pick - used to select DE Malachi Lawrence
  • 2026 3rd round pick (from 49ers)
  • Eagles 2026 4th round pick (#114)
  • Eagles 2026 4th round pick (#137)
  • 2027 6th round pick - (from Steelers)
The Cowboys gave up DE Micah Parsons, DT Mazi Smith and DT Osa Odighizuwa.

Cowboys have received (so far) DT Kenny Clark, DT Quinnen Williams, DE Malachi Lawrence, WR George Pickens and S Caleb Downs. The Cowboys have also upgraded their two 2026 5th round compensatory picks (#177 & #180) to two 2026 4th round picks (#114 & #137), a net increase in draft stock of 63.9 points - equivalent to the 115th pick in this draft.

In my opinion, the Cowboys have upgraded their starting Defensive Tackles from Odighizuwa and Smith to Williams and Clark. They've replaced Micah Parson with Malachi Lawrence (initially graded as a downgrade), plus added S Caleb Downs, WR George Pickens, and a trade of draft picks equivalent in value to a high 4th round pick.

So, if you just take out the DT swap/upgrade from the equation, Trading Micah Parsons has resulted in the additions of WR George Pickens, S Caleb Downs, and DE Malachi Lawrence, plus the upgrade of two low 2026 5th round picks to two higher 4th round picks - the equivalent value of pick #115.

We will yet see if this works out for the Cowboys, but as we head into tonight without a 2nd round pick, consider the balance sheet for the Cowboys overall...so far. Is it worth it??

Of course the Cowboys still have the 4th, 5th and 7th round picks they owned in the 2026 draft before all this trading took place.

Pickens had nothing to do with Parsons trade. And Downs was our pick not one we gained from trade.

Not sure I’d lump them in as a result.

We will have a better defense that last year. Not much of a stretch. Cant go much lower.

But trading Parsons while losing Lawrence last year totally deflated our defense without a pass rush. And with a good offense it negated a potential playoff run in a season when the NFC was pretty wide open.

We’ll see if we can recover in year 2 .

Mods. Merge the talk about this clown micah please.
Sure, the greatest player in Cowboys history not resigned to a second contract .

Anyway our drafts now revolve around the picks and players gained from trade so will be relevant as such.

Who is his competition for that title my disingenuous old man?

In 2025 the Cowboys D-Coordinator played MLB Kenneth Murray 100% of defensive snaps in the majority of games.

They were not going to be good with a D-Coordinator dumb enough to do that even if prime LT and Parsons were the edge rushers...

A couple come to mind like Duane Thomas and Hollywood Henderson but for different reasons. And we didn’t trade them.
If you have to go that far back it wasn't really worth commenting. But I know how you micah fans are. Do your thing bro

I’m a fan of great players for the Cowboys. You just don’t let talent of that level go. At least not early in their career.

We had no intention of doing so. Jethro just blew contract negotiations.

And typical way to opt out of argument attempting to discredit me personally.

We wasn’t talented last year but I still think our DC tried to force a square peg in a round hole. Great coaches put players in a position to succeed, they adjust when something isn’t working, if you are being eaten alive in the secondary you take some risk and blitz more. What did he have to lose by going super aggressive

I said greatest Cowboys player not resigned to a second contract.
Oh Gotcha, yes I would agree with that. He’s the best Cowboy player not to be resigned. When I read it I misunderstood what you said. So now I understand and yes completely agree.

Through Day 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft, the Cowboys have used their draft assets, plus 3 players traded away to acquire 7 players, with 4 picks remaining on Day 3.

CB Jermod McCoy is still undrafted. Surely if he makes it to pick 112, the Cowboys will take a flyer on him.

Should lump in the Logan Wilson, Mingo and Lands trades too
