Micah's role against the Giants

This week I would at least start the game with shutting down the run by keying Micah on Barkley. Then if the Cowboys offense can establish a lead, then I would turn Micah loose on Dimes. Sounds simple, but the Giants are going to do everything possible to establish the run. You can't let the Giants drive the ball and get 1st downs and chew up the clock.

As pretty as it is to have Micah hunting down QBs, I think he will be more valuable this week as a sideline to sideline linebacker that can contain Barkley.

But then if the Cowboys can get a 2-score lead and force the Giants to have to throw the ball, then you can unleash the pass rush.

I don’t think we will be keying Micah on Barkley. He will do what he will do all year sans injuries to others and that’s a little bit of everything and going after Jones will be a huge part of the game plan

We will see. Remember we have Barr. He can hold down the run and let Parsons get at him. We need to get in his face and make him make mistakes. Get a few pick 6 six.

And we run the ball and play action.

Micah's role should be rushing the passer 90% of the time.

He's great at everything but getting to the QB consistently is the most important thing you can do on defense in this era of football.

Let him make Jones see ghosts all game. Everyone else can handle Barkley.

Agreed. This is a LVE & Barr game. They have to show up in the running game. NYG will likely rush it 30-35 times Monday night.

NY will run the ball and I'm not just talking about Barkley.
Brian Daboll runs a similar offense to Buffalo, for obvious reasons. But don't be surprised if there are design QB run plays called, there already has been. If he's ALWAYS on the edge pass rushing, he's not always in the best spot to stop a runner.
I like how Quinn moves him around according to matchups. Some fans have this fascination of locking him to the edge.

I completely agree and I will add Jones legs to the mix. We have to be able to contain him & Barkley on the ground. It will be more important for Micah and the LBer corp to do that. They can get after the passer when\if we put them in situations where they have to abandon the run.

I would look for Giants to bait us to rush up field early to see if they can bust runs. We need to be disciplined & not take the bait.

The Giants will attempt to bully the Cowboys defense. They're running straight at them. Over and over again.

Thankfully we have Quinton Bohanna.

If we don't stop Barkley we lose...plain and simple. Jones is trash so if we can shut down the run he'll turn the ball over.

Micah should play more LBr this week and obviously rush on obvious passing downs.

Micah was actually bought in here to be a run stopping LB which he excelled in while at penn state

Micah is a nearly full-time DE now. That is simply too valuable to not use.
He'll track Barkley but in the backfield at the snap not 5-7 yards off the ball.
LVE/Barr have been good.
We just cant have goofy penalties give them free 1st downs so they can milk clock and wear the D out.

We have to better at ball control than they are which means getting our own running game going.

Honestly it would play out about like week ideally.
We'd get ahead and then just try to kill game off.
Giants aren't as good defensively as Cincy so we should have better luck.
But even if not a ton of luck then Danny Diems and the Giants WR corps is far less scary than the Bengals.

I trust Dan Quinn to deploy Micah according to the defensive game plan. Whether that is at EDGE, MLB, or blitzing in the A gap, etc - Q will be flexible and do what's required to hopefully give us an advantage.
