Michael Brockers, LSU, DT

A lot of what you say is true.

But keep in mind that Coleman and Spears combined for 2 sacks and 16 pressures... In 800 snaps.

Stephen Bowen in as many snaps had 7 sacks and 13 pressures.

The Cowboys were 7th in sacks, if the defensive line picked up a few more this team would be in the top 3 of sacks.

3-4 DE's do not have to stay "stapled" to the line-of-scrimmage. There are a number of guys who are truly pass-rush threats as 3-4 defensive ends.

I agree. 3-4 DE's are meant to penetrate and push the online back creating holes for LBs to shoot through. You won't get any argument from that Spears and Coleman were sub par last year. His argument was against Brockers for only having 2 sacks, which is just a poor way to judge any DT or 3-4 DE.

Calling Brockers another Marcus Spears is not fair.

Spears was a lot more proven when he was at LSU.

The truth is spoken. Spears was a much better prospect coming out.

But if they can not pressure the QB and get sacks we have way to many other needs. We need pressure players. Crap take a shot at Whitney Mercilus or someone. At least he had 16 sacks last year although some worry he was a one year wonder. If I am taking a shot at someone then give me someone that has shown some ability to get pressure on the QB at some level thats all I'm asking. Our roster is already stuffed with big guys that can not get pressure at end along with a couple that have shown flashes of "potential" that can get consistent pressure at DE. I dont want to draft another of those JAG's at 14. I want someone proven to have ability to rush the passer and thats just not this guy. I would rather have someone like DeCastro or Glenn at OG then this guy for sure. Fills another need with a much more polished and proven player.

This draft is solid with OL and CB prospects we dont have to force someone like this at 14. I hope Brockers tears it up big time at the combine and someone ELSE falls in love with him and drafts him top 13!! Thats my fantasy with Brockers

my feeling is to stay away from brockers @14
too much risk
#14 needs to be a cant miss guy

this is why it seems we should sign someone like red bryant in FA and try to trade down with someone like cincinnati because there will be very good options available in early 20's like cordy glenn, dontari poe, probably even jenkins and kirkpatrick (though i am not for CB in rd 1) who would also fill major positions of need without reaching

and we would have an extra second rd pick which could net us another starter quality player

if we cant find a trade partner, then take DeCastro or Ingram if they are there

This appraisal seems to differ:

There has been a defensive tackle chosen among the top 10 names off the board in each of the past five drafts, and Michael Brockers of LSU and Penn State's Devon Still could extend that streak this season. Scouts seem to differ about which of the tackles at this point rates as the premier prospect at the position but they agree that both will almost certainly be chosen in the top half of the first round.

The consensus seems to be that Still might be the better interior rusher, with a little bit quicker first step, but Brockers clearly has his admirers, as well. And the former LSU star might be the better all-around inside player.

"Two great players and great kids," said one personnel director last week. "It's just a matter of personal preference."

***? Orson Charles at 12? Thats pretty ridiculous. I cant find another place that has him ranked in the top 50, let alone 15. I can see him jumping into the early 2nd after the combine, but theres no way you can call him a top 15 prospect in this draft.

FWIW, Wes Bunting was up on Tyron Smith waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay before anyone else had them on their radar.

I'm not saying he's right, but it's food for thought.

Lol, not to mention New England has made tight end a sexy pick right now.

That Gronk kid is phenomenal. 27 TDs in just two seasons.
