Like Michael Gallup, Chris Godwin of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers also had an ACL injury during the 2021 NFL season. According to this article (https://www.nfl.com/news/buccaneers...s-explosiveness-is-coming-back-in-second-offs), Godwin also believes his productivity and ability to play will increase after his second offseason since the ACL operation. “It was a night and day difference between last year and this year,” said Godwin

Godwin and Gallup both had more catches in 2022 than 2021, but their avg gain per catch was down, indicating a loss of explosiveness for both players - even if their statistical total productivity was similar in 2022 to their respective performances in 2021.

Earlier this month, when questioned about his knee surgery, Gallup said, “It’s different. I feel springy again.” It appears that both Godwin and Gallup are entering the 2022 summer with much greater confidence in their bodies, and both are expecting better results in 2023.

"I think I'm very close to it. I feel like a lot of my explosion is coming back," he said. "I feel very comfortable with the things that I'm working on. It feels really good to be able to have the opportunity to work on my skill development this offseason, as opposed to just working to rehab an injury."
Godwin's words sounds like they are describing Gallup and what we have heard recently about him.

Thank you @Jumbo075 for finding and posting this!

So are we saying that OBJ won’t be all that this year?

A study in how some players heal faster and are more productive than others from the same injury.
Godwin got his ACL surgery a month earlier than Gallup in January vice February.
But while Godwin suited up week 1 for the opener Gallup wasnt ready 'til week 5.
Godwin tweaked a hammy in the opener and missed the following 2 games.
But then Godwin played in games 4 through 17 and caught over a 100 balls for a 1000 plus yards.

Godwin proved to be a much quicker and productive healer from the same injury.
So hopefully Gallup's post op production resembles Godwin's now.

Some players do take 2 years to come back while others bounce right back. This is a big year for Gallup, because if doesn't do atleast what he did in 2020 he's probably looking for a new job.

Hoping for a big year from him!

Really, the only post op decline was ypc for Godwin. He was still highly productive.
Gallup did not heal or produce anywhere near how Godwin did.

I guess they are just giving general feel good offseason opinions from both players.

Gallup's still gotta lotta catching up to do to match Godwins perceived "off" year.

Hopefully Gallup is fully back.

Better play designs and routes and calls will help Gallup as well. Dak should have a bounce back year as well with better decisions, hopefully from better play calling and play design as well.

Cooks will help take pressure off also, and open things up for Gallup, as the defense will focus on CeeDee and Cooks foremost.

Gallup’s year over year production in 2022, like Godwin’s, was not that different from 2021. Godwin was already twice as productive as Gallup, and he remained twice as productive in 2022. Gallup only had 12 less receiving yards in 2022 than in 2021. So the Cowboys kind of got what they paid for, if they wanted similar production to 2021.

But I expect that the Cowboys were hoping that the trajectory of production from Gallup would increase as it had in previous seasons. That is why they signed him to a long term deal. But his injury clearly impeded that progress.

If Gallup only remains as productive as he was in 2021 and 2022, I doubt the Cowboys will keep him after 2023. He will need to fulfill the expectations of continuing to improve. A big part of that will be the ability to gain better separation than he did last year. Also, the redesign of the offense, and the addition of Cooks is going to play a factor.

Honestly, the odds are stacked against Gallup, even with him being healthier in 2023. But he can still overcome those odds. He has a much better chance of pleasing both the coaches and the fans by being healthy this coming season.

Didn't he sign a rather lengthy contract to start off last season...slow down giving up on him.

I agree
Gallup isn’t gonna have 100 catches because he won’t get the targets but he will most likely be back to form and gives us a really solid target

Fingers crossed that Gallup is himself this year. But big ups to the front office for insurance with Cooks this season unlike last season hoping Gallup would be ok.

I wouldn't consider Cooks insurance. He's the No. 2 receiver, bumping Gallup to No. 3, where he belongs. Gallup can be a great No. 3 and an OK No. 2. Nothing wrong with that because you need to be solid through the first three spots, although we did pay Gallup to be a No. 2 when we traded away Cooper. He's had only one year (2019) where he looked like he could be a great No. 2.
