Brady Hoke named Michigan coach

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan picked San Diego State's Brady Hoke as its new football coach on Tuesday, hours after LSU said Les Miles would be staying in the Bayou.

Hoke is not a Michigan man -- he's a Ball State alumnus -- but he is a former Wolverines assistant and athletic director Dave Brandon praised him highly in announcing the decision.

"We are pleased to announce the hiring of Brady," Brandon said. "He is a terrific coach and will be a great ambassador and leader for our football program. We look forward to having him build a championship program on the field and in the classroom."

I don't know much about Hoke... But Michigan used to be a place where they could get just about anyone they wanted to coach there. Man they've fallen a long way. This guy is more of a wildcard than Rich Rod was. At least Rodriguez had some visible success at a BCS program.

Hoke is a good coach Pep. He's not widely known but he's a fine young coach. I think Michigan probably got themselves a good hire here. JMO.

And he may be. But IMO, someone who has coached two seasons at San Diego State, and gone 4-8 and 9-4 (one game over .500) in the Mountain West, isn't a "Michigan" hire.
