This franchise has no right to expect anything from anyone. They have shown that it doesn't matter there is no accountability from top to bottom.

There was a time when we desperately needed Martin to play some OT. He said no thanks I like it at guard it is much easier here and you still pay me like a tackle anyway so why would I. Oh and by the way I am holding out for more money.

We draft another OT in the first because we desperately needed a reliable one. What does this guy do? Says hmmm I think I would prefer to play guard. Ok we say sounds good thanks. We will just draft another one in the first.

No one feels any need to produce because there is nothing on the line.

Things could not be going any better for this franchise.

This is the way.

Guyton looks good and Nate Newton was praising Mazi and Sam as the 2 that are getting off the ball the quickest.

I did hear broaddus mention maxi has a balance problem getting stuck on one foot often.

This is the fundamental issue with the Cowboys methodology of team building. Mickey is right, but they are completely dependent upon late 1st round picks (and others) being day 1 impact players. If Mazi and Guyton aren't successful this team has two major holes on their roster and are counting on unknowns to get to even replacement level production. Since 2020 picks in the bottom 3rd of 1st round picks show about a 50/50 hit rate in terms of just making starts. Looking at pro bowl appearances you have

2020 - 2 players out of 12
2021 - 1 player out of 12
2022 - 3 players out of 12
2023 - 0 players out of 12

Looking at 2023 here were the snap counts (including special teams) for later 1st round picks (20-32)....

WR Smith-Njigba - 672
WR Quentin Johnston - 746
WR Zay Flowers - 1019
WR Jordan Addison - 921
DB Deonte Banks - 901 (Not good results)
TE Dalton Kincaid - 785
DL Mazi Smith - 328 (Horrible results)
OL Anton Harrison - 1183 (Horrible results)
DL Myles Murphy - 392 (Mostly bad results)
DL Bryan Bresee - 604 (Mostly bad results)
ED Nolan Smith - 472 (Horrible results)
ED Felix Anudike-Uzomah - 240 (Horrible Results)

Perception seems to be that if you take a player in the 1st round they should be plug and play starters. Pretty much all data shows that to be not true. You have about a 50/50 shot to land an above average late 1st round rookie, and it seems to be much better odds of finding a plug and play skill player than a guy in the trenches. These guys typically need time to develop.

Concerned about Mazi. The vibe from the team about him is weird. The weight loss, the lack of productivity, MM saying he is “getting closer” and Parsons publicly saying they need him to produce like a 1st round pick up front.

It all smacks of trying to talk a player into working hard, preparing, and applying himself towards being great.

If he is used to coasting and is mentally soft, then he won’t reach his potential. I hope he turns the corner this TC. Guess we will find out.

Guyton? The guy was a raw player with a high ceiling to begin with. Expectations need to be managed. He isn’t going to be Tyron Smith from day 1 or likely day 1,001 either.

I'm thinking both will be strong coming out of camp...but here is the big question up front.

The Cowboys obviously had high hopes that Williams would help make up for the 11.5 sacks that Armstrong and Fowler provided last year, and now you can throw in the 4.5 that Williams himself recorded as well. Certainly not good. I do think no stone will go unturned in an effort to fill that void, but I'm not sure I would expect any great savior to come walking through the door. According to Spotrac.com, the Cowboys have over $11 million in cap space available to them, and hopefully they'll be able create more room once one of these big deals gets done. But will they really spend all that much right now given the contract issues they are still facing in the future? We may be looking at a one-year deal for a prove-it type player, which they've had some success with in the past. They could also try to work out a trade, but where on the roster do they have enough depth? Will they weaken one position to try to strengthen another? Maybe so. The Cowboys do have some promising young talent and, of course, as long as Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence are on the field, the defense should be able to create some pressure. But it remains to be seen what will happen when those two are not. This was indeed a massive blow.

I think it depends on the position. Running back and receiver I expect to and a day one impact.

I do not take Broaddus words seriously. He has had it in for Mazi for a long time.

There’s video out there that shows this guy

He was working with Mazi trying to keep both his feet on the ground. He tends to use only 1 leg sometimes.

I would agree. Skill players, even QBs with a lot of college snaps are stepping in and contributing right away even if not finished products. Linemen not taken in the top half of the round seem to need more time to adjust to the next level, but after a few years the bust rates for most positions aside from QB is pretty even.

Cant make this stuff up.
-The one legged Nose Tackle
-one legged linebacker
-30 year old rookie tight end
-250 million dollar QB with no playoff success
-The pothead DE
-Taco Truck
-Leagues tiniest running back

If nothing else we get plenty of drama

Yeah we got good play out of Tyler but yeah linemen starting off hot is hit or miss late in the round.
