Middle Tennessee State University running back Phillip Tanner is worth a late-round selection. On film, Tanner shows some similarities to Benson in terms of running style. In addition, he proved to be a legitimate receiving threat out of the backfield. With the Bengals making the transition to a West Coast offense this would be a good match.
Tanner has been flying under the radar after playing in a spread offense in college, which featured a running quarterback. He also split time with two other backs and still put up impressive numbers. In 36 career games, Tanner had 430 attempts for 2,024 yards and 33 touchdowns. He averaged 4.7 yards per carry. The running back also accounted for 481 receiving yards and one touchdown on 42 receptions.
