Mike Shanahan has brought controversy on himself and his team with Sunday's stunning decision. No matter how he's played, Donovan McNabb has won the respect of his teammates. You can hear it in the way they talk about him. They really believed that he was their leader. Now, Shanahan has given them something else to ponder. Here's what McNabb said about his benching Sunday: "When you get benched, you get benched," McNabb said. "Just have to learn from it and move on. I continue to focus as if I'm the starter," he added. "He said I'm still the starter."

McNabb eventually forgave Andy Reid for benching him in 2008 because they had so much history. That's not the case with Shanahan, as I wrote about earlier Monday. This is a sign that Shanahan & Son have been doubting McNabb as a leader for a good while. If you have faith in the guy, you certainly don't undermine him at such a critical juncture.

Well if you want a guy to practice the 2 minute drill seriously, this is probably a good way to get it done.

From what I understand, their 3rd down conversions have been atrocious this year...

I was at the game and it felt like a lose no matter who was in at QB. The OLine was getting blowin out of the water by the Lions D-Line. McNabb hasn't really been playing lights out lately, either. Hopefully this benching will turn things around for him, kind of like when he got benched w/ the eagles. For Shanahan, welcome to DC media. It is nothing like Denvers media, here and for the NFC-East as a whole, EVERYTHING gets blowin out of proportion.

Cowherd had McNabb as an NFL MVP candidate this year. Seriously. MVP.

How so? I suppose you would know clueless with the Wade show :)

You traded a 2nd and a 3rd for a 34 year old QB you've already benched and you're working out JaMarcus Russel today.

.... that's how so.

We know what Wade is and he'll soon be out of a job soon enough. In the meantime you've handed over the keys of your franchise to a guy who thought Maurice Clarett was a steal in the 3rd round and you still think of him as a genius.

I honestly can not fathom the skins bringing in JR for a look.

Just do not get that one at all.

I have heard reports, don't know the validity of them, that Shanahan does not care for McNabb and his conditioning. Thinks he is somewhat out of shape and so on.

Now We all remember stories of this happening in Philly with McNabb having trouble in tough games towards the end, the infamous superbowl throwing up and so on. We know Shanny had his stand off with Alberta and so on...so this does not seem to be a stretch to believe.

So why in the world would you bring in another QB that has a rep of being out of shape all the time. Even to just look at him.

Just don't get that one.

Odds are, and I know people gloss over this, its a "courtesy" workout for either his agent, John Lucas (former basketball player working with Russel) or hell even his coach.

The Commanders worked out 19 guys today. Beck/Grossman are under contract and it McNabb is starting on MNF in 2 weeks.

And knowing Jerry he will hand over the keys to another lackey, like John Fox or Red ***** :)

But hey, I do still think you guys have talent. Enjoy the basement over the next few weeks, we tried not to make too big of a mess there the last 2 seasons :lmao2:

I would not give a courtesy work out to that player. Just me.

Not ragging the skins or shanny really... Just think that one is odd.

Its a workout. Due diligence. See something new. All that good stuff.

You never know how a guy can bounce back (see Chris Carter as an example)

Odds are he will be gone today and never heard from again in Ashburn

Apparently JR's agent is good friends with Dexter Manley. I don't know that that connection played a factor in it, but wouldn't shock me. I also doubt it's anything more than a progress check for his agent, and himself.

I believe John Fox has coached a team to the Superbowl since your "genius" last has.
