That was just a bad year for Houston.

Watson tore his ACL in practice after week 8.
JJ Watt only played 5 games.

Watson was 3-3 in 7 games with 19 TDs and 8 INTs* Didn't play the entire first game.
His backups went 1-9 with 9 TDs and 9 INTs

Unless the team is the 2002 Ravens or 85 Bears, you at least need a semi competent offense to not gas the defense.

After Watson went down in week 8, the team scored 14, 7, 31, 16, 13, 16, 7, 6, 13 points.
Prior to Watson going down they scored: 7*, 13, 33, 57, 34, 33, 38.

Their defense forced 11 TO those 6 games Watson played fully.
6 TO in 10 games after he was out.

Not saying Vrabel didn't play a role in them sucking, just that they lost a franchise QB and their franchise DE.

Even if you give him a pass, its still one year as a defensive coordinator. And without success. People are acting like we are miss our chance on some kind of wonderful not bring him in. I think he is a very good HC, but he isnt a tactician.

For sure. I'm not up in arms on not hiring him as a D.C.

IMO call me in 2025 when we dont resign McCarthy. Vrabel is most likely going to be in my top 5
He strikes me more of that "motivator" coaches like Dan Campbell and not someone who is a X&O guy. I'm sure as a former player he knows a lot, but to call a game; like you said it's not like his resume as a DC was amazing.

Completely agree. There is little track record with Vrabel in this role

They have had guys like Clowney, DJ Reader, Bernedick McKinley, Jonathan Joseph, Zach Cunningham, Kareem Jackson. The only difference between them and a 4th ranked unit the next year was Watt
You forgot Whitney Mercilus!

I've seen enough recent evidence with the Titans defense to not be concerned about that. They have consistently outplayed their talent level, and not a lot of NFL units manage to do that.

Shane Bowen was the DC and now is the Giants DC.

Vrabel coached Henry. Knows him. Could be a nice bridge if we are looking to land him. Might be worth interviewing him.

He is a very good coach. He is just not a tactician, which a DC needs to be. Was one of the leagues best position coaches. Thats why he was a hot name for HC jobs after 1 poor season as a DC
and of course you are the ultimate authority, right?
The arrogance of so many so called cowboy fans always amaze me

The arrogance of so called fans that will just hurl insults and provide no substance to go with it. All the while expecting to be taken seriously

They won 4 games. Defense was on the field all the time.
