Mike Zimmer on Bobby Petrino: "He's a gutless..."

Let's just say Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer doesn't look back fondly on his days coaching under Bobby Petrino in Atlanta.

"He's a gutless *******. Quote that. I don't give a ----," Zimmer said Wednesday, according to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

When Zimmer was told that responsible news organization may not be able to use "*******," Zimmer responded:

"How about this, gutless **. You can use that." (Awesome. Much appreciated.)

UPDATE: More from Zimmer, via Reedy: "[Petrino] is a coward. Put that in quotes. He ruined a bunch of people's lives, a bunch of people's families, kids, because he didn't have enough nuts to stay there and finish the job. That's the truth."

Nothing but respect for Zimmer. Even when he was here and lots of guys where hating on him. He doesn't cry or make excuses. He tells it as it is and works as hard as possible.

I like Mike Zimmer. Always have.

I like Zimmer the person. The coach...not so much.

This is one of the things and Zimmer exemplifies why I love the NFL and don't put much time into the college game.

It took less than a year to expose Petrino as a lousy coach and a human being with little or no redeeming value.

And it took about 2 years for him to go back to the college game and be revered by fans, get big time recruits, and to have one of the top teams in the country.

I may not like Zimmer the coach all that much, but I never found him to be a fraud. Why? Because usually those guys get exposed in a grown man's league like the NFL.
