I didn't really start watching it much til a few years ago. I used to really like Fedor until he lost his touch. Recently, after seeing Rua get annihilated I've went back and watched some Jones highlights and that guy is AWESOME.

Who do you like?

GSP is amazing to me.
He has had exciting matches but he has also had matches that are kind of boring but he wins.

Of all the guys out there he seems to do the best with game planning for a particular opponent and not only planning for it but executing it.

There might be other guys out there with more natural talent, other guys that put more exciting fights out but he just seems to be on a different level where he does whatever it takes to win even if it might not always look great.
Game plan well, execute the game plan...win.

There are plenty of others I enjoy watching. I normally like matches that both fighters are going full bore into a fight and not stopping or slacking off. One of the best fights was Diego Sanchez vs Clay Guida (sp?). That match was none stop from both sides and they were getting some big hits in. Clay did not win, clay has lost quite a few but I love how he goes full on 100% of the time.

Most of the LHW division, cause it's the only really competitive division in MMA at the moment

Shogun (even though i think he'll be forced to retire soon due to his knees)
Rampage
Jones

GSP puts me to sleep, Silva can be pretty awesome when he wants to but you never know which Silva you get

Yes Silva has done some thinks that just flat out amaze you. Too bad he has had some matches where it looks like he did not prepare and just did not seem to care.

GSP and Anderson Silva are my two favorites to watch at this point. Hands down.

I also like the following folks.

Brock Lesnar
Rampage
Jake Shields
Frankie Edgar
Gray Maynard
Clay Guida
Diego Sanchez
Ryan Bader
Jon Jones
Dos Santos
Cain Velezquez
Forrest Griffin
Matt Hughes
BJ Penn

Just to name a few. There are many more who I enjoy watching but those are the ones that quickly come to mind.

Silva is in a league all his own, Ive had a few mma guys tell me that in the Silva vs Sonnen fight, Silva was making a point because of his previous fight that pi$$ed off dana white. according to them he let it go all 5 rounds and at the very end he looked up at the clock and secured the triangle, that he is THAT good. whether or not it is true, he is prob the most dominating athlete in any sport right now, and a fight between him and GSP, which i think is inevitable, is going to be awesome.

I was watching the fight and I don't think he was letting it happen. I think Sonnen just simply was able to take him down and stuff but what Silva does really well, much like GSP, is that he doesn't panic or lose focus. He remains calm and when you make your eventual mistake he capitalizes on it.

I believe that is what he did with Sonnen. Capitalized on the one mistake.

GSP is my favorite.

I enjoy watching Frankie Edgar, Brock, JBJ, Rampage, etc...

I've become a pretty big fan of MMA.

I'm excited to see the Brock/JDS fight to see if Brock has improved his standup. It will be interesting to see a GSP/Silva or JBJ/Silva if it happens.

Jon Jones vs. Anderson Silva would be absolutely outstanding! I'd love to see that fight.

I'm really wanting to see a GSP vs. Silva fight though. I just think that would be pretty darn good to see how those two strategize for one another and how they go about carrying out those fight plans.

Think of what Chael Sonnen did to Anderson. Now imagine someone like with the base and the 230lbs frame (on fight night) of Jon Jones fighting Anderson.

As far as selling PPVs, it would be insane. But stylistically, that's a horrible matchup for Anderson.

But to the original question, I'll answer by division ..

135: Dominick Cruz - Love his unorthodox striking ability, no one like him

145: Jose Aldo - No brainer here, as Aldo is ruthless and exciting

155: BJ Penn - Do not care if he is at 70, IMO, when he's in shape, he's still the best at '55

170: Nick Diaz - Warrior, and not willing to back down from anyone

185: Rousimar Palhares - One of the very few fighters who relies heavily on leg locks, love that he brings something different to fights

205: Forrest Griffin - Not high on talent, but hilariously funny dude and an absolute warrior

HW: Fedor - One of the main reasons I love this sport as much as I do

First let me say I agree on all your picks except Diaz and Fedor. Diaz because he's annoying and honestly I think his IQ is lower than that of a Commanders QB.

Fedor simply because I think he was over hyped (not that he wasn't a very good/great fighter mind you) by the fact that he held that long undefeated streak for so long at least in part, a bigger part than most admit IMO, due to the fact that he fought subpar competition after PRIDE closed.

As for the Jones/Anderson fight I also agree except that Jones seems to love to stand up as well and I think him and Anderson could have a stand up war that would be interesting as hell.

If it went to the ground, and it probably would at some point no doubt, then I totally agree with your point about Jones owning him there.

I don't really get caught up that much in the whole 'bad attitude' thing. Do not really buy the whole 'IQ' thing either. You do not understand the many techniques of MMA to the degree Nick Diaz understands them by having a low IQ. For the simple fact Nick has fought anyone at anytime, and consistently puts everything he has into every fight, the guy deserves all respect. One of the truest warriors of the sport.

I also do not get caught up in the whole 'Fedor never fought anyone after PRIDE' thing. Who cares if he did not? Fedor could have retired the day PRIDE closed and been considered arguably the greatest MMA fighter to ever live. His run of domination, in the way he did it, will never be matched by any fighter.

The stoic, quiet, and pudgy kid from small-town Russia comes into the sport and runs through competitor after competitor? Incredible career Fedor had. And as long as the guy fights, he will be considered my favorite fighter in the sport, which is the point of this thread.

Lastly, about Jones-Silva. Lets not get it twisted, Jones isn't about to stand with arguably the greatest striker in the sport. Two words on why he will not do it - Greg Jackson.

No matter how improving Jones striking may be, he has MANY years to go to be on Anderson's level, and the Jackson Camp knows that. Greg Jackson nor Jon Jones are dummies, and the #1 and only priority for Jon Jones would be to get that fight to the ground so Anderson cannot use his insane striking ability on Jon.

The equivalent to Jon standing to fight with Anderson would be close to Anderson pulling guard on Jacare. :laugh2:

My guess - less than 20 seconds before Jon initiated the clinch against the cage, or tried a trip takedown.

-Much like all of yall, I really like GSP. He's got it all and he still is so humble.

-Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida is my favorite fighter. Don't know why, but I've always pulled for the dude.

I like Rashad Evans because he has always been such an underdog and is completely disrespected by everyone.

I just hope he can get healthy and if I had to pick 1 guy to beat Jon Jones in this weight class it would be Evans.

The top 3 fighters in mma imo are

1. Anderson Silva - amazing Standup-Jiu Jitsu-Mauy Thai

2. Jon Jones - His length and unorthodox style is just to much for anyone to handle.

3. GSP - Really no weakness outside of a susceptible jaw. He can win a fight many different ways and may be the best takedown specialist in MMA.

All excellent points and well taken.

I'm simply just not a fan in the least of Diaz or Fedor. :)
