Pretty hard to mock here at the first of January but also to me you have to have some sort of clue as to which guys we are keeping, free agents we MIGHT sign (obviously none the 1st week!), what are truly are offense and defense needs, and knowing that unless it is some fantastic guy then we will most likely draft from D1 schools the first 4/5 rounds.
I am NOT including anything to do with the salary cap because despite our thinking, every team seems to be able to manipulate it do what they want.
I see us resigning
1. Jayron Kearse because he can play LB and Safety.
2. High likely we resign Cedrick Wilson WR as a dependable WR3.
3. I also could see us signing Michael Gallup WR to a one year deal with incentives especially since he most likely starts out 2022 on the PUP list.
4. Malik Hooker S seems to put himself into position for another one year deal and don't think he will get much play in free agency anyway.
5. Randy Gregory DE will resign and the reason I don't have him at #1 is just because Gregory knows the help he gets off the field from Dallas. Now the contract will not be cheap but definitely Dallas friendly.
6. Believe one year deals will be offered to Brett Urban DT, Keanu Neal LB, Damonte Kazee S, Bryan Anger P, Jake McQuaide LS, Corey Clements RB, Malik Turner WR, Francis Bernard LB, and Luke Gifford LB. Now some will take the deal and some will not but depending on the draft and UDFA guy will say a lot about who makes the roster and who does not.
I think Dallas would like to resign Dorrance Armstrong DE and Dalton Schultz TE although I do believe they both get deals that Dallas will not touch. The same could be true for Leighton Vander Esch LB although his case is much different depending on if his game keeps rising in week 18 and the playoffs.
As to UFAs that might be in the market and what we might want for the right price.
QB Andy Dalton - Cooper Rush has been solid but if Dak goes down again Dalton is better.
TE - if one of guys like Engram or Njoku or Williams or Uzomah fall past week 2 of free agency then possibly especially if they can block but believe we like Jarwin, McKeon, and Sprinkle may be back on a vet minimum contract.
OL - where I believe we need the most help because Tyron Smith is basically done except maybe as a swing OT and LG is a disaster right now. I do believe we switch La'el Collins to LG and Steele becomes the RT which solves a lot of issues and McGovern becomes the swing OG/OC. Is Josh Ball who if not for off field issues would have been no worse than a 2nd round guy ready to step up and be a LT or RT? If not then either free agency or the draft needs to be first if we want a run game and less pressure on Dak. I don't see Dallas spending big money on a free agent although if they would then Armstead would be my choice. Then Ben Jones at OC is a close 2nd.
DL/LB/Secondary - we just are not going to spend anything other than vet minimum or little more in free agency on defense.
Now the draft where we will stick to the philosophy of best player available (that fits a need mostly). My needs are LT, OC, and S in that order. Best guess where we draft would be mid 20s but hopefully 32.
1. Unless it is just a great player that falls then I would trade out with say a Detroit for a 2nd and 3rd who would take a QB. Detroit currently has the 2nd pick in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.
2. Tyler Linderbaum OC Iowa - projected currently as top 15 but will be much lower by the time the draft comes OT, DE, CB, S, LB, QB and WR will dominate the 1st round. I could see him slip to the top of the 2nd easily.
2. Jaquan Brisker S Penn St - has the length, size, and speed. Good Tackler and good ball skills.
3. Bernahard Raimann OT Central Michigan - has great athletic ability, great height although probably could use another 20 pounds as only 307, road grade guy but also good at pass protect should develop into a very good LT but may need a year.
3. Kingsley Enagbare OLB South Carolina - great speed, height, length, and solid defender. Was a DE also for South Carolina but pro position probably outside linebacker
4. Greg Dulcich TE UCLA - good height, length and good speed for a TE also does more than a decent job at blocking and catches the ball very well
5. Luke Goedeke OG Central Michigan - played OT in college but will move inside in the pros, strong, athletic, quick feet, pulls very well, good potential
6. Tyler Johnson DE/DT Arizona State - good athlete, can play inside or outside, good techniques, very good rotational player
7. Mario Goodrich CB Clemson - rising player, seems to be getting better every year, can play outside or in the slot
Went a little heavier on offense than defense but my reasons mostly are because we did really well in the draft last year. I suspect that Kevin Joseph will start opposite Diggs next year and Brown, Lewis and Wright also, DT looks like a very good rotation with Hill, Bohanna, Gallimore and Odighizuwa, DE rotation of Lawrence, Gregory, Golston and Basham also looks good. LB is good with Parson and Cox with probably a draft pick. Now safety depends on resigning Hooker and Kearse and what we do in the draft. We probably sign a couple of UDFA RBs along with others.
Just my thoughts this early January 2022! Oh FRANKLY, I would start acquiring assets over the next four years to make a run for the #1 pick in the 2026 draft when Arch Manning will be in the draft at QB!!!!!
