I think this year is the year we finally spend early picks, maybe first rounder, on OL. There are several good OTs that should be available in the mid to late first. Considering there aren't many players besides Peterson that would help us a lot in the top ten (and I don't think he'll last past pick 5, maybe not past 2), I think its a prime year to trade down (which I'm not normally a big fan of). If we trade down we still should have pick of some good DBs or several good OTs, probably two of our biggest needs. For example, I don't see a big diff between Prince and Harris, but I bet we could get Harris several picks after Prince goes. Going from pick 9 to around pick 20, at least points-wise, could potentially get us another late 2nd rounder. Along the OL, OT is high pri and requires a higher pick....and I think everyone except Free is going to be looked at to be upgraded this offseason. DB, esp CB is a pri also but I honestly think a good DC and decent S play will fix a lot of it. CB may or may not be as big of a pri as we think because we do still have Scandrick who has played well, McCann who I think will develop, Ball who can play CB, and Jenkins is certainly capable of more. I'd like an ILB but not much to choose from in this draft. Overall, I could really see us drafting 3 OL this year.
Assuming CB Peterson will be gone by pick #9....
1st Round) Trade back to the late teens or early 20s to pick up an extra late second
Pick is one of OT Gabe Carimi or OT Nate Solder.
Poss back up picks are CB Harris and S Tate (but I'd trade down farther if I was going to take Tate in the first).
2nd Round)
Pick A: S Kenny Tate (Hopefully AA and Tate or Ball and Tate can man S and Ball can go back to CB. Back up pick is Brandon Harris although with Jenkins staying in school, Harris may get pushed into the late first.
Pick B: DE Jared Crick: not sure he'll be a star but he's going to be a good player for a long time and this might give us trade bait in one of our other DEs.
3rd Round)
Pick is C Kris O'Dowd: We've been wanting to upgrade Gurode for at least two seasons, here he is. Gurode can go back to G, be traded or whatever.
Back up pick is OG John Moffitt and Marcus Cannon to free us to cut Bigg if he keeps stinking.
4th Round)
Pick is RB Daniel Thomas or RB Kendall Hunter: never have too many good backs esp as injury prone as Felix has been. I like Choice a lot and considering there are no big bruising RBs this year, I like Thomas and Hunter as providing a little more umph in our running game. I think either could move the pile a little better than Felix or Choice and both have a good chance to be really good in the NFL. If one of them turns out to be a star which i think is possible, then there are some teams that might like to have Choice.
5th Round)
Pick is WR/KR Cecil Shorts: a little fast and more importantly QUICK guy that will catch everything although I'm doubting he lasts this long esp if he posts a sub 4.4 at the combine or proday. We were remiss to pass on Mike Wallace a few years back, we could still use some speed and quickness in the slot and on KRs, esp to pair with McCann. Shorts is worth a late round trade up IMO, or even a trade into the fourth round using some late picks and possibly a current player.
6th and 7th rounds) Might consider a K here ....yet again and whatever falls to us. I like K Dan Bailey from Ok State, he's been money on accuracy and can kick off pretty well. He might make it to UDFA status too.
