Here we are in the second round of the playoffs where we fail to advance so for Cowboys fans it is about the draft and free agency. All of it is dreams and speculation as none of us have even a clue of what will really happen. Going by who is available in FA and current draft boards which will all change each week. Then March comes and we will want Dallas to sign some high priced free agent (which they won't) and then April and the draft where there is no way this guy or that guy will fall in the first or be available in 2nd or OMG the 3rd yet it happens every single year. So here goes my take at least for January 19th 2022.

FA - As much as I would like us to sign a couple of top free agents, it won't happen. We resign Gregory DE, Kearse S, McQuade LS, Wilson WR, Hooker S and Amger P. I do believe some of the others like Kazee, Neal, LVE, Urban, Turner, Clement, and Watkins could be back if not offered much by the 3rd or 4th week of FA and of course some will depend on if Quinn is back or we have a new DC.

As for free agents from other teams, maybe O.J. Howard TE (lots of upside and needs change of scenery), Nick Martin OC (would be good depth and provide better competition), Will Hernandez OG ( Giants have soured on him but has upside), and maybe Kwon Alexander LB (spot starter, good backup, good range).

Now for me, Dallas has to improve the O line from 4 points, they have to resolve the LG situation, they have to pass block much better, as a line they have to get nastier, and they have to cut down on the penalties especially the pre snap ones. Next they have to be able to stop the run up the middle and keep the OGs off the LBs. Then we need the secondary and LBs to have better communications especially in zone defenses.

We have a fairly young team especially on defense but we need a couple of pieces to make it much much better. On offense, opening up holes for the RBs and allowing the QB more than 2 secs to make a decision.

So here goes.
Round 1 - Jordan Davis DT Georgia or Tyler Linderbaum OC Iowa . I believe one or both could fall to 24 and in fact would not be surprised if both fall into the 28 to 40 range. It is just typical for centers and DT to go later. Not that is either isn't really good but regardless if there aren't any great QBs in the draft, pretty sure at least 3 will go in the first round and we all know a few guys will make a splash in pro days and a team will fall in love with them and they will move into the 1st round. IMO, Linderbaum should be a top 15 guy but his late season injury will push him down and depending of what teams need an OC will also come into play. As to Davis, he is a big at 340 to 360 and a lot of teams will only view him as a 2 down player.

Round 2. - Jaquan Brisker S Penn St. - would be a great piece to pair with Parsons and possibly solve the S problem for years to come. Frankly I could see the Jets wanting to make a splash in the 1st round as they have 2 picks already but could see them giving up pick 36 along with pick 69 for pick 24. If no one at 24 that Dallas believes is a difference maker then they would make the trade and hope a guy they like falls.

Round 3. - Nik Bonitto LB Oklahoma - would pair very well with Parsons and Cox to give us a great LB corp.

Round 4. - Braxton Jones OT Southern Utah - prototypical OT prospect with great length and good feet. Nasty player who loves to engage.

Round 5. - Brian Robinson Jr RB Alabama - power back with speed should be a great piece that Dallas could count on

Round 6. - Michael Clemons DE Texas A&M - lots of upside, rotation piece that could develop into an excellent starter

Round 7 - Jequez Ezzard WR Sam Houston St - some scouts see him as the next Ty Hill and if so would be a great addition for Dak

UDFA Priority - Josh Babicz TE North Dakota St - great blocker, great hands and a good knack for getting open and QB friendly

Jack Cockran ILB South Dakota - good speed, nose for the ball, knows how to shed blocks, great tackler

Blast from the past - Will Hernandez - the guy some on this board said was as good as Quenton Nelson. LOL.

I'm not sure we can accurately mock until we figure out if Quinn is our DC - otherwise without him I don't see us going DT over OC in the 1st - Green is another option floating around as well.

I can't imagine many saw Will Hernandez in the same light as Nelson. Nelson was arguably the best player in the draft and Hernandez was a fringe 1st round pick.

Alot of people oversold themselves on Hernandez
