The college refs have been awful this season as well. And LSU just got jobbed.
On a punt return, the Tennessee returner was letting the ball go into the end zone. one of his blockers was behind him engaged in a LSU player. The ball bounced behind him and came up and grazed his hand, went in the end zone, LSU recovered. The play was ruled a touchback, and was reviewed.
On the replay, it was pretty clear to me that the Tennessee guy touched the ball. He had his back turned to the ball, the started to turn towards the ball, and it hit him... He immediately threw up his arms and found the ball, even though he hadn't been looking at it. Now riddle me this, if the defender's not looking at the ball, how would he be able to find it immediately if he hadn't touched the ball??
It wasn't 100% clear from the movement of the ball that it hit his hand, but his reaction pushed that 80% in my mind to 100%.
Replay is useless in college. The refs have become hesitant to make a call on the field, and they don't want to overrule the calls because of their pride. It's ridiculous.
