Mortensen, and Mel for that matter, said today on ESPN's McShay mock draft show that Jalen Carter is a lock top 10 pick with Mort saying worst case scenario Philadelphia won't pass on him. That isn't just his opinion, it's what he's being told.

With his connections around the league that's good enough for me.

I didn't expect a free fall but some did. This should put that to rest.

A few other things you might find interesting.

Mort claims McCarthy was a big fan of Marshawn Lynch and tried to get the Packers to make a move up for him. He thinks McCarthy might make the same campaign for Bijan Robinson. (I would have said he might stand up on the table for him but let's be realistic here.)

Also, Mel says he has a late 2nd/early 3rd round grade on Tennessee QB Hendon Hooker. Called him a system QB. He flared his nostrils dismissively at his name.

Mel has a late 1st round grade on Michigan CB DJ Turner and would have replaced Todd's Ravens pick of Quentin Johnston with Turner.

I wasn't expecting him to get by the Bears at #9. I have a feeling they already gave him a guarantee that if he makes it to them, they're going to take him.

I really hope he doesn't get past the Bears at 9.

I don't want to sit here watching the Eagles trotting out Fletcher Cox, Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter while we're fielding Osa, Hankins and Gallimore.

Hooker might be the best QB in this draft...

Age and injury are the issues.

Yea I have read a couple of tweets about the Carter/Philly connection. Keep something in mind, nothing to stop another team from trading up with the Eagles to get him at 10. Just know Roseman will get as much out of that pick as possible.

I truly fail to understand why an older QB project is a problem. Or to be blunt any QB prospect who is not 21 or 22.

IF he is any good he will - barring injury - at least last until his mid 30's the way they protect QBs anymore. So you are looking at, even if he is say 26 or so, a QB that will still give you two full contracts at least.

AND a older QB prospect just about HAS TO BE more mature and therefore more likely to BETTER handle the problems of being an NFL QB then a younger prospect.

Preach. Acting like a second contract is something you should base your draft decisions on is completely out of sync with today's league where players are looking, almost exclusively, for the most money is a bit foolish.

No doubt, your scenario really highlights just how big the Watkins loss was!

Jordan Davis didn't do squat last season.

Think they’re more likely to trade up for him than down. Considering the value that team has placed on DT the last 30 years and how much dead cap they’ve got in Cox already, Carter is probably the #1 player on their board!

And whoever picks him is going to regret it in the long run. Shrug.
