Out? Home Run? Before reading on, what's your thoughts?!

It's a hell of a catch, but in my opinion still a home run. Don't know the rule on this, but if that ball and the defender are over the fence it should be a home run. You can steal a home run as long as you remain in the field of play. That’s my official take anyway! We need a rule book. But it was a great catch!

It's an out in MLB, and from the celebration there, looks like it's an out in softball as well.

In MLB, it's an out but any runners are awarded one base. Just like if a guy falls into the stands while catching a foul ball.

A home run is only an out if caught with part of the body in fair territory, and the whole body doesn't end up on the wrong side of the wall. A foul ball is completely different. It's already out of play.

That is not true. The player’s whole body can fall into the stands or over the fence and it’s still a catch. It is true that they can’t step into the stands or the dugout before making the catch. The rule for catching foul balls and catching balls over the fence are exactly the same.

It's not out of play until the play is over. It's in foul territory but that is not out of play.

Pretty sure it's an out. You just don't see it that often because most MLB fences are taller than 4 feet.

Found the official ruling. You can flip over the wall into the bull pen or stands like the example above., but when you secure the catch one or both feet have to be over the field of play.

\Rule 5.09(a)(1) Comment (Rule 6.05(a ) Comment): A fielder may reach into, but not step into, a dugout to make a catch, and if he holds the ball, the catch shall be allowed. A fielder, in order to make a catch must have one or both feet on or over the playing surface (including the lip of the dugout) and neither foot on the ground inside the dugout or in any other out-of-play area. Ball is in play, unless the fielder, after making a legal catch, steps or falls into a dugout or other out-of-play area, in which case the ball is dead. Status of runners shall be as described in Rule 5.06(b)(3)(C) Comment (Rule 7.04(c) Comment).

Man why can’t you just say it was a great catch and leave it at that instead of being self righteous about a damn rule?

So, it really depends on whether her feet had crossed the fence when the ball enters her glove. If a toetip is still over, catch.

Appears you may be correct:

Not sure if it will start at the Rizzo play, but it's 3:05
