Most hated baby names: Is your kid's on the list?

If you already have your heart set on a name for your baby, you may want to stop reading now. If you couldn't care less what anyone else thinks and won't break into tears at the sight of seeing your future child's name on the 10 Most Hated Baby Name list, then proceed. I warn you, however, that it can be brutal to see one's choice sitting there after all the painstaking debate and devotion that go into choosing just the right name.

The list comes from Laura Wattenberg, author of The Baby Name Wizard: A Magical Method for Finding the Perfect Name for Your Baby. She conducted an "informal" study and came up with the list. In general she found people hate "gender-bending" names in which a masculine name becomes feminine -- like Addison or Madison.

As well, people despise trendy names ... though obviously not everyone does or they wouldn't be trendy, right? Also on the list of hate are names that are difficult to spell (Kaitlyn) and those that are similar versions of other names (Jayden, Brayden, and Kayden).

Girls
1. Nevaeh ("heaven" spelled backward and one of the most divisive names around, according to Wattenberg)
2. Destiny (people dislike names that confer a virtue onto a child, Wattenberg said -- and many associated this name with exotic dancers)
3. Madison

Boys
1. Jayden
2. Brayden
3. Aiden

Read more and yes the rest of list for boys and girls is included: http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/parenting/most-hated-baby-names-is-your-kids-on-the-list-2480235

Girl names on that list are stripper names.
The boys names...I'll get banned if I explain them.

I remember when my daughter was born, we looked at the Social Security Admin's list of most popular names of 2001 for some ideas. More girls were named Destiny than were named Jennifer that year. That blew me away, as Jennifer was one of the most popular girl names when I was a kid.

Thanks to People magazine, we can always learn what oddball concoction stars come up with as a moniker for their newborn. One of the latest to have a baby is "Clueless" star Alicia Silverstone. She named her son...wait for it...Bear Blu. That's right folks, Bear Blu. ....

Haha.

No explanation needed. They all have an "ay" sound in common.

"Whatever happened to Vinny and Eddie"?

It is such an ego things by parents when they give their children idiotic names; not caring how much crap their kids face when going through school with names like Chastity and Moon Unit and the like. It is a form of child abuse.

If someone names their kid Bentley, they should put in jail.

Odd that Michael is a hated name.

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but how are Addison and Madison "gender-bending" names?

The whole list thing is BS: 'People' don't like the names? Informal study? The dislikes are as ephemeral as the waves of popular baby names.

You should name your kids based on a polling of 'acceptable' names by the populace at large? Good luck with that.
