I'm really not surprised, probably a very smart decision on his part. With the way his defense played this year, he probably thought next year the defense wouldn't be that much better and didn't want his stock to drop. At least this way he gets a big HC position instead of risking falling out of favor for the next UT job (or any other for that matter) over consecutive bad seasons.

Reports are Major Applewhite to follow Muschamp to Florida. Probably OC I guess. Mack Brown might want to forget all that being repectful to other programs and not interview coaches till after the bowl games crap.

Don't blame him, Mack's not retiring anytime soon.

And that is a real freaking shame. I think everyone realizes it by now but Mack is a great recruiter but an average coach. This may not be a one season fluke for Texas...

We'll see how good he is at recruiting coaches.

I'm a little suprised.. seeing how they didn't interview another candidate
I think Florida felt like they had to act fast due to all the bad blood felt by their younger players and their recruits.

A hell of a lot of people said this year's Texas defense would be their best ever and they completely fell apart. I personally never understood why anyone thought that though.

Losing Earl Thomas was a much bigger loss than anyone at Texas thought.

Guy was a once in a lifetime player. Had he came back that D wouldve been different.

which is the main reason why I didn't understand the best defense ever crap. Any defense with Blake Gideon on the field can't possibly be the best ever at anything besides sucking.

Well it's not as though UT can't attract and pay the best guys out there they can find. I don't blame him for leaving. That's too good an offer to pass on.

once ina lifetime? As in a program only gets a player like this once in a lifetime or you only get to witness a player like this once a lifetime (at any school)

As in it will be a long time before Texas gets a safety that can cover the amount of territory that Earl Thomas could.
