The Dallas Cowboys are 2-0 after another solid offensive performance.

Dallas has now beaten the Giants and Dolphins, two teams they should beat, but hardly doormats. The Giants offense and the Dolphins defense will keep them in games most weeks provided they can keep the talent who played versus Dallas on the field.

But, no, the Pats aren’t quaking in their boots just yet and clearing space for a sixth Lombardi is premature.

37-20 Dallas in a solid all-around performance

The offense was challenged at times by an aggressive and quick Miami defense.
There were also self-induced penalties and dropped passes to slow the offense.
But the defense stepped up and gave the offense great field position.

As a note here, Flozell Adams, may very well end up leading the league in false starts.
It was a worry when he was drafted that he could not hear out of his right ear. The thought was it might cause lots of false starts. I do not know if that is to blame but I do know penalties aside he handled reigning NFL Defensive MVP Jason Taylor very, very well. In the second half he got very little help and didn’t seem to need much. Romo helped him with his elusiveness to hold Taylor sack-less but Flo pushed him around in the running game and kept him mauled most of the night.

So give a game ball to Flozell for his overall effort against one of the league’s best players.

Romo and Barber also have to get kudos for strong offensive performances that were high-lighted by great touchdown-making plays. Barber broke though the line and sprinted 40 yards for a dagger in the Dolphins hearts after spending all day butting heads with Dolphin defenders and coming up with yardage to show and smiles for the defender.
Romo was slippery as an eel and made a nifty toss to Tony Curtis with half the Dolphins D crowding that area of the field. Tony Romo is simply a rock star.

On defense Anthony Henry stepped up and played the ball which is his strength and came away with two picks. If you challenge Anthony Henry you better win the match up because if you don’t he will make you pay. He isn’t a near unbeatable like Terence Newman but he does make you pay more so than Newman who is simply a blanket.

Roy Williams had a good game. He gets blasted for his coverage but as this game showed he can cover and close fine if not forced to guard against two way goes underneath or provide over the top deep coverage. He can close quickly and has good straight-line speed, he just isn’t a good change of direction guy. I think Zach Thomas and Roy Williams are eerily similar players. Odd for one to be a MLB and the other a safety but it is what it is.

Another guy who deserves mention is Bradie James. James was simply horrid last year. This season he has been very, very good. He is much quicker after dropping some weight but has plenty of size to corral ball carriers.

For the Boys they are getting healthier and hope Ellis and TNew can return to the lineups soon in at least part-time action. When they do get those two back this defense becomes much more explosive. Tnew and Ellis will allow a far greater range of schemes. Both are smart veterans with unique skill sets. Greg Ellis is a monster run stopper who can provide good pressure on the passer. Terence can man cover anyone in the league and shut down most guys while doing so.

Looking ahead to next week the Bears will bring in a top notch defense and special teams and an offense that makes mistakes. The Boys challenge will be to play smart on special teams while doing enough on offense to put Chicago behind. The Bears are a very bad team when down because Grossman is about as bad as it gets at stepping back and winging it. But if the Bears get the lead their defense will stifle you and send Hester back in punt formation to punish you.

I can not wait to see what Jason Garrett comes up with for a game plan.

I thought Dallas could have beaten the Bears last year in the playoffs and we will see how they match up this season this week.
