Candi is my late brother Ron's youngest daughter, with his second wife... she's been singing since she was a very little girl... she was nervous at the start of this audition, had a weak moment there, but rallied at the end... the comments from the judges for this audition were pretty positive, but I haven't heard if she got accepted...

I'm pretty proud of her... if she does make it, I might actually have to finally break down and watch Idol... LOL...

you're lucky you're one of my favorite posters

so I will just say good luck to her

and I hate AI and the people involved with it

so that means alot

Actually, I don't really care if she makes it or not, it took guts just to go try out... I'll just say that I've heard her sing better than she did in that audition, I could tell her nerves were eating her up... it was pretty cool that the other auditioners were cheering her on, though...

I hate AI too, and America's Got Talent, all of those kinds of shows... and yet, I always enjoy Nashville Star... go figure...

i know i'll be watching, & i'll definately be watching her. i hope your niece does well, silverbear. :)

You know you're sweet, right?? :D

As I said, though, I don't even know if she made the cut... all I know, from the second clip, is that the judges that day were complimentary (and as I've said before, I know she's actually a little better than she showed that day)...

Spartanburg SC? That's where I live.

I like soul in her voice too. Would love to hear & see more of her. I hope she made it.

They actually lived in Roebuck, her mom worked at Spartanburg General Hospital, in administration...

Candi now lives in the back end of North Carolina, but as you clearly saw, still calls Spartanburg "home"... when she was still in junior high school, she was invited to join the city's collective high school choir; they made appearances at Disney World, and even went over to Austria...

Yeah, I'm proud of her... takes guts to get up there and sing in that kind of pressure-- especially a capella...

There is some musical ability in my family, on my father's side... my great aunt Frances, the woman who raised my Dad, was a concert opera singer, a pure soprano... even at 75 years old, her version of Ave Maria was the best I ever heard, anywhere...

My Dad couldn't sing a lick, but he was a fine pianist... the kind of guy who could take a new piece of sheet music, fumble through it one time, then play it perfectly the second time through... most any kind of music... my brother Ron, Candi's daddy, couldn't sing a lick, but I have a pretty good voice (even if that sounds immodest)...

I like the soulful sound she gave it. Nice job.

Thanks, pal... I agree, that song needs just a bit of a blues edge to it...

I could tell from the way she was fidgeting when she first came onstage that she was really, really nervous, and being critical here, she started it off a half beat too slow, kind of oversang it a little... but by the time she got to "fish are jumping, and the cotton is high", she was startin' to get into it, I thought... then it appeared to me that she lost her focus on her breathing for a split second, and as a result had a little problem going down for the last note on "and your momma's good looking"...

But after that, I thought she got real strong, and was frustrated that the video ended in the middle of the second verse... all in all, I thought she had a good reading of the song... I was smiling at the end of the video, but I think I was as nervous as she was at the start, the first time I saw it...

Whether she advances or not, I'm really pleased, and really proud of her for having the courage to take the shot... I already knew she could sing, so I wasn't surprised by that...

I'm just smiling reading this thread... I plan on letting Candi know about it...

Thanks for the kind words, said the proud uncle...

Well, I do, and I don't, if that makes any sense... it would be the thrill of a lifetime for her to have the chance to compete on the show, and I'd be so happy if she could experience that...

But that would mean I'd have to watch the show, and I'd sooner have a root canal...

Without novocaine...

Seriously, to me she already won, but getting up there and taking a shot... and if you viewed the judge's comments, I wouldn't rule out the possibility of her going at least a bit farther...

It seems to be one of the annual auditions for AI that they hold around the country... hell, I couldn't tell you who any of the judges were on that video, or even who the emcee was... I am not a follower of that program, at all...

Well, regardless, I wish her the best of luck and hope I get to see her on the show! If she makes the cut, then I will throw a vote her way!

That's awesome Silverbear. I don't watch American Idol, but my sister does, so I will have her keep an eye out for your niece, in case she makes it.

I agree with you that it took a lot of courage to get up on stage, and perform before a crowd. I can tell you right now that I wouldn't be able to.

I hope she does well, and has a lot of fun in the process.

When I was about 15 ys old, I had to sing to a large crowd outside in a stadium. It was cold, I was nervous and I shook so bad before hand I thought I was going to throw up. I guess I lost my nervs then because when it was over, I never got nervous again. I sang before thousands and on TV at different times and was calm as could be.
