I'm pretty sure I've got them in my apartment. Rather than letting the property maintenance men in my efficiency flat, I'd like to use natural alternatives to killing these suckers.

Thankfully, I have no bites yet. That's why I'd like to act sooner rather than later.

Hopefully, folks like notherbob will read this and give me some ideas.

Steam is supposed to be a good way to kill bed bugs. You just have to get a steamer and larger plastic bags.

A friend of mine had them (and was on Animal Planets 'Infestation' series) and it was very hard and taxing. They finally ended up with burning them out, after all the chemical garbage failed.

Some company pumped massive amounts of high heat into the house and the bugs dehydrated and died completely.

Thermapro is just such a comany.

There was some episode of an exterminator show on and they had the guy pack up everything he owned and they brought it to their hot box. It stayed in the box overnight and after it's done everything is dead.

Of course, the apartment would still need to be treated.

Some companies also have bed bug sniffing dogs that can come in and see where the major infestation points are.

Sorry, don't know much about them as bedbugs and German cockroaches are mostly a city thing because that's where the people are and we don't have them out here.

Actually you can crush and sautee fresh non-irradiated garlic in oil and there will be a lot of Diallyl trisulfide and also diallyl disulfide in the oil and that oil is very toxic to insects and bugs and can kill a lot of bedbugs but it will also make your things very smelly if you use it and stain them with oil as well so it is not really a good answer.

You might Google neem and pyrethrum and hellbore to see whether you think any of them might help as all are natural insecticides. I used to see a lot of hellbore along the mountain trails when I used to backpack in the Rockies.

How do I get the steam? By opening all the doors and turning on my shower?

This might be a good options. I appreciate everyone's answers, even if I didn't give a specific reply to them.

Turns out it was baby cockroaches. Don't they look similar to you, particularly the ones on the right?

I don't know why, but I feel much better now that they're just cockroaches. Of course, nothing's going to change. I told my building manager and they're going to send the chemicals on Wednesday.

Oh boy. I'd consider moving.:laugh2:
I can take bugs, but roaches, not at all. Nasty pieces __ ____.

How did you find out? Good luck.
