Here's to the top 2 picks for the Mavs. Aiden, Luka or bust!

Actually, I don't mind Bagley, Porter Jr, or JJJ.

For the 13th time the Nuggets didn't move up in the draft. Every time they stay in their spot or fall back.

You can talk about teams tanking but the other side of the coin there are teams like Denver who get short end of the lottery every year.

Spurs fans younger than 21 don't even know what the NBA draft lottery is.

#5 for the Mavs. Tough break. But you could still get Porter who was the most likely #1 entering the season

I want Porter Jr over Bamba. Dirk's twitter was how I usually feel on the Mavs luck. "of course..."

Bamba or Porter Jr are the most likely Mavs picks now.
Id take Porter. I think Porter could be a 20-25 ppg a night guy. His value at that pick is too good.

Bamba is very intriguing. But how is his offense going to be on the next level, or is he a guy that gets pulled to close games?

Lmao....Ill say this though. Even with bad the in the lottery the Mavs have been lucky the last two drafts have been stacked. They could come out with two franchise level players at picks 9 and 5 respectively in the last two drafts. Thats not bad at all

It's not the optimal spot (pick #5) but you're right in this is an especially deep draft.

When it comes down to it, say they take Porter and both him and DJS are putting up 20+ ppg and the Mavs are back in contention, thats all anyone will care about.

The Seattle Supersonics lost out on Greg Oden.....

I was hoping Phoenix would get screwed and we could trade them Rozier and our 2019 Kings pick to get into the lottery, but that aint gonna happen with them at #1.

Id still like to use that package the get into the Bagely, Jackson, Bamba range.

In draft history, the Mavs have never once moved up in the draft lottery process.
And have often moved down, like they once again did this year.
Just horrible luck in that regard.
The 14 out 15 year stretch of making the playoffs seems in a distant past

Meanwhile, though it was a long time ago, the Spurs got the first overall pick twice—and in unbeilable years to have that luck
Landed both David Robinson and Tim Duncan
Unimaginable, almost impossible luck to have the very top pick and both years have a no brainer sure thing future HOF prospect waiting for you.
Shaped that franchise for decades

The Tim Duncan lottery was a very dark day in Celtic history. We were the favorite and had high lotto picks that year. We wound up with Chauncy Billups, and Ron Mercer. We traded Billups for Kenny Anderson during the season.

So instead of Duncan, we got Kenny Anderson and Ron Mercer. Celtics fans hated/still hate Rick Pitino more than any Cowboy fan could possibly hate Jason Garrett

I am an avid tank hater and this is why....
Mavs tanked all year to lose 2 lottery slots and draft 5th....

Think this draft was pretty clearly in tiers:
Tier 1: Ayton and Doncic. --Both ready to go now guys who can help bad NBA teams day 1.
Tier 2: JacksonJr (foul laden top athlete with sweet 3 point shot), Bamba (elite shot blocker who can look lost offensively), Porter Jr (Elite prospect coming off back surgery and a missed year), Trae Young (poor man's Curry who can score and create offense but is skinny and very poor defensively.)

Dallas had 3rd most ping pong balls and you'd have liked to have your choice of that 2nd tier group.

I'm not a fan of taking guys with back injury histories because backs just don't seem to ever be 100%.

So for me you are looking at either Jackson Jr who struggled some staying on the court and didn't rebound enough but who does shoot it well from range and can block shots. Might be a 3 and D center which could be fun in modern NBA.
OR
Bamba who is an elite defender and shot blocker but can look bad offensively. This is the Tyson Chandler clone and if you had 5 more years of pre-walker and cane Dirk this would easily be your guy.

But with Dallas picking 5th they get to take whomever is left over.
Trae Young isn't an option next to Dennis Smith Jr IMHO.

Ron Mercer, lol. That's a blast from the past.
