The impending implosion of Texas Stadium has been in and out of the news for around a year now, but the iconic facility's collapse only now has a concrete date.

It was announced Wednesday that Texas Stadium will be imploded at daybreak on April 11. Kraft Macaroni and Cheese -- which I'm told is the very cheesiest -- is sponsoring the event, which will be broadcast live on the Internet. Four cameras will be fixed outside the stadium, and two inside the stadium to chronicle the 37-year-old giant's last moments.

A live aerial shot streaming live on NBCDFW is also planned.

The area will be used, once the rubble is cleared, as an "open canvas for development," referred to as Crossroads DFW. The land--about 75-acres in size--could be used for residential, office, transit-oriented, or mixed development.

As of now, the implosion itself is gaining significant notoriety, which seems only fitting given the stadium housed the Dallas Cowboys. Measures are being taken, beyond the Internet feeds (which can be found at www.cityofirving.org/texas-stadium), to ensure that fans have access to this historic event.

“There is great interest among sports fans, tourists and residents to watch the implosion in person,” said Maura Gast, executive director, Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau. “City officials are currently determining logistics such as staging and viewing areas, parking, and how to manage traffic around the stadium.”

The implosion plan, developed by Jacobs Engineering, will be carried out by Weir Brothers, and the company is taking extra steps to bring down the stadium in a eco-friendly manner. The venue is currently being stripped of all remnants of asbestos, per state and federal regulations, and 95 percent of the concrete and steel which account for most of the structure will be recycled.

It's fitting that it will take place on a Sunday since so many other eventful things happened there on that day of the week.

Take the stadium down in an eco friendly way? What are they going to do, hose it down with a fire hose?

Watch the video where they show what it looks like on the inside right now. I'd be lying if I said there wasn't a twinge of sadness when I saw it in that condition. I'm gonna miss that place. So many memories.

I thought I'd be a little sad, but I have to say, I REALLY love the new stadium. :)

No kidding. I didn't realize how much of a dump Texas Stadium had become until I went to the game in the digs last week.

The last couple times I've visited for a game, I've driven past Texas Stadium on my way to the new digs... it's amazing how much smaller and older it looks in comparison.

On my last flight out of DFW, our flight path took us right between the two stadiums... I could see Texas stadium out the left window of the plane and Cowboys Stadium out the right. It was a pretty cool experience!

Sad day... I have so many good memories there...

Murphey Martin (legendary voice of the Cowboys... RIP) used to send us tickets for every Thanksgiving Day game because he was a fan of my dad in high school and college (both from Lufkin)

I've seen some historic games there as well as playing catch with Cliff Harris and Charlie Waters on the field. I also kicked a 45 yard field goal in boots (yes I am from Texas and I wear boots) that same day... call me Jerry... ;) Also have seen a few concerts there including the George Strait Festival...

Also had the privilege to play on the field in High School...

Gonna miss the old girl, but it's time to move on...

Glad a Cowboy hater didn't win the button pusher contest...

It's a testament to the Cowboys popularity to see bidding going on for the actual implosion...

I will shed a tear that day...

The only guy in the video that looked sad at all was the Cowboy fan. All the big wigs from the City of Irving looked like they were having orgasms at the thought of imploding the stadium.

Actually the stadium imploding at that would have been poetic justice...

Seeing how the city Irving has been exploiting the event, I don't think I am so interested now...
